I want to learn computers but literally all the terms are chinese. The most tech savvy I got was mod Skyrim or Morrowind. I do not know why program files exist. I don't know why some maps are called the way they are and I wish I could.I am installing linux mint xfce and it asked me about partitions, like wtf is that? Wtf why you guys gotta make things complicated by inventing words? Can't you niggas be normal?
>>106466394Open chatgpt on your phone, every time something comes up that you don't understand ask chatgpt to explain it. You'll learn more in a week than we did years.
>>106466394That's how tech is, it's needlessly complicated and gay, it's a bunch of barely working bullshit stacked on top of each other by different people and organizations with no vision. There's a certain type of person who's eternally blind to this and just enjoys playing around in the shit pile. But these are the people who end up making things even worse, obviously. If you start out thinking that it's complicated for no reason, you might not have the right mentality to enjoy tech as much as humanly possible, but you actually have the right mentality to be on the right side of history and maybe even be one of the few people who make a positive contribution.
>>106466417I was fooling around in mint doing this and it gave me command lines for ubuntu and eventually bricked my OS
>>106466440Skill issue>>106466484Ubuntu lines should work fine in mint though
>>106466394im based i know lol
>>106466440>ffmpegTechniggas be like here's my new tech thing called xbuugvbkol and nobody knows what it stands for
>I am installing linux mint xfceinstalling linux is probably the best you can do. So many doors will open up from here, just keep googling stuff. Getting into web dev (html, css and then later js) could teach you a bit as well
>>106466394get a shit computer and a bunch of thumbdrives you dont mind absolutely wrecking all the data on, go download some boot disks try all the things
>get a spare SSD and install various flavours of Linux on it and play around with it until it breaks>repeat>when it breaks, see if you can fix it>be curious about a lot of different things>build a computer>get extra computers to mess around with>mess with the terminal>if you don't know what something is, search it up or ask an AI to tell you what it is in simple terms>study comptia's A+ material
>>106466484Mint is literally based on UbuntuYou bricked Ubuntu using Ubuntu commands?
>>106466659.....fuck.
>fast forward moving pictures expert groupWhy are techtards so bad at naming things? Holy fuck>hey guys here's my book library with built in search filter and I named it BIG BOOKS ELITIST READERS CAPITAL (bberc)
High quality books, especially from O'Reilly and Pragmatic Bookshelf. Avoid Packt that publication only exists to proliferate jeet-tier content. You don't have to understand everything you read, note what sticks, what doesn't, and try again after some time. Tbh other than that just dive in. The books and theory are an important foundation but it takes living in the terminal for a while to really get good. I remember being absolutely blown away by vim macros when I first learned them.
Use it every day for hours from age 3 till now

>>106466394CPUs are souped up calculators that do math in numbers following a list of instructions (that are also numbers).RAM/HDD/SSD/Floppy disk/CD/QR-Codes are just a pile of stored numbers sometimes with addresses (that are also numbers).Programs are a pile of instructions (numbers) and a header (it's basically a how to use the instructions). This text you're reading, its also a pile of numbers with specific numbers representing specific letters (like a being 97 and A being 65).Now partitions are just a way to split your hard drive in several mini-hard drives.
>>106466417AI is useful for informational stuff, not much else.Get a throwaway system like a shitstain 15 year old desktop, search "install artix" on youtube until you find 5 or 6 different videos, walk through an artix install on each video until you hit a brick wall then start over again from scratch with a different install artix video.Basically keep going until you brick something on your throwaway system, try troubleshooting it for 48 hours, then try a different avenue. The meta knowledge you're looking for is how to research things you don't know about, and repeat tasks (and ideally take notes on a different system or write them down in a notebook) until the solutions and systems knowledge are engrained in your brain.Learning is a biological process, not unlike exercise. It requires nutrition, exertion, and rest.Literally that's it, search for solutions on youtube, with various search engines, on various forums (linux questions is good), the arch wiki, the old /g/ wiki, the new /g/ wiki, ask an AI, ask another AI, and so on.From there go to a used book store and find some cheap books on intro to computer science, intro to linux, intro to [insert computer related field here] and read whatever you can understand while you eat your meals. Even if you're just reading dictionary entries for computer science stuff that is at least exposing you to the vocabulary, so you can learn to recognize terminology. You can flesh out your knowledge later.
Anon please.. Turn back now. Do not become the computer guy, it's not worth it. Just start a business or get into sales.
>>106466394>like you guysmajority of this board knows very little about tech and is just parroting points they read off other websites.

>>106466394fpbp(>>106466417)The old way was googling when you didn't know about something, but now you have it even easier (though tech keeps moving faster).Beyond that, it's just knowledge that comes with experience. Helps if you work in tech because you're focusing on it every day and constantly running into new stuff.
>>106466394>>106466394This is endearing, anon. >le moonrunes are confusingIt is designed that way for posturing amongst normal faggots. I told someone today that I taught myself binary to decimal conversions and they were mildly impressed.Other anons are saying to install flavours of linux and break, remake and fix. That is exactly what you should do. Trial by fire. I would recommend learning about "Virtual Machines", invest in some good hardware (64GB DDR4 RAM, 2018 CPU, etc) and play around within that environment. CompTIA A+ Exam material is also a good environment and foundation to learn about Technology shit. Then learn how to port forward, use docker, selfhost LLMs, webservices, security, etc. It's an endless rabbithole filled to the brim with trinkets and anagrams that will make your head spin (thanks IANA)If you need help, come back to the chans, get called retarded for not looking it up, then someone will likely spoonfeed.
>>106466394>>106467284>High quality books, especially from O'Reilly and Pragmatic BookshelfThis. If OP knows nothing about computers and wants to learn, the best first step is to not be a nigger and read some good books to get a good theorethical foundation.I'd suggest starting with Andrew S. Tanenbaum, William Stallings and James Kurose books>Structured Computer Organization (Tanenbaum)>Computer Organization and Architecture (Stallings)>Modern Operating Systems (Tanenbaum)>Computer Networks (Tanenbaum)>Computer Networking: A Top-Down Approach (Kurose)For some stuff like history and fundamentals of computer storage, Wikipedia unironically contains pretty decent and comprehensive material. After done with these, you can get to some more practical materials like books about Linux and PC building. For Windows, read the Windows Internals books, written by Microsoft engineers.
A partition is just how you section up a storage space ala a harddrive. So a harddrive or a USB or whatever can have 1 partition, the entire thing, that's the usual. But if you partition it you can have 2 partitions, splitting it right in the middle. 1 partition can have windows and the other linux without them troubling the other.
