LG were the last ones left and they've stoppedhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTNCYrLEezAIf you want one now's the time to get it
>>106466594use case?
It was a garbage format anyway, HD-DVD should have won.
>>106466594Does this apply to Blu-Ray drives too?
I'm thinking maybe I should get an external Blu-ray drive for compatibility.
All PC optical drives or just internal?
To be clear, you mean internal 5.25" drivesyou can still get external USB drivesand the drives are still going to be manufactured for the Xbox/PS5 as well as niche industry applications.
>>106466594WAT. I need to stock up on blu ray drives.
External optical drives are the primary form factor for PCs now.
>>106466594>lg has exited the market>they were the last onesi'm really tired of these compulsive lying retards and fucking idiots using this website to mine gooigle shekels. fuck off, retard.
I still have an optical drive in my PC for nostalgia but I sure as fuck don't need it, the most I do with it is burn backups of my dotfiles and stuff every month.
It makes sense. Most people are on laptops or devices that have no space for a drive bay disc. And with USB4 an external drive is going to be the same speeds anyway.
confirmed: this guy really is a fucking idiot getting hammered by people commenting on this video. he just took the word of *someone* as fact and ran with it. i hate these youtubing retards so much that it's unreal.
I haven't used an optical drive on my PC in over a year. It's a once-in-a-blue-moon occasion these days. An internal drive would just be wasting case space ~99% of the time so I just keep an external drive inside a pouch in my closet for when the occasion arrives.
>>106466610importing old media that you find on discs such as cd albums and old pc games (if it's rare shit it could be difficult enough to find on trackers to bother to rip yourself)and if you can break the drm of blue-rays well ripping the stuff released in blueray like movies. if they fully kill disc media we're going to be condemned to the shitty bitrate starved encodings that streaming services offer
Never really used it, and now my new pc i built doesn't have one or even a spot to really mount oneMight get an external one someday because I have some blu rays i like to play
>>106466594>look at buying that stupid $110 ASUS BW-16D1HT aka the "Cadillac" drive>it's supposedly just a rebadge of something else same with LG's optionwtf do I get
>>106466594I have a blu ray drive in my pc. I like it, but I'll probably do a smaller build next time and ditch the drive. It's lame digging out an external drive when there's enough space in the PC to include one.
>>106466594Oh no!
So buy used, what's the problem?
>>106466594Meh, I have a bluray burner in my pc case but it’s not plugged in since I haven’t used it in ages. For people like rossman maybe it as wise for them to horde those old bluray drives, gotta have rippers for the high seas.
>>106466788Can you buy a WH16NS60 new? I don't think so.
>>106466932with how rarely one actually uses them nowadays it might be smarter to just have one of those USB portable ones desu. getting an internal one that fits the case style is a pain nowadays
>>106466959also come to think of it a hacked used ps3 or ps4 might make for a very cheap but weird drive these days... I actually need to rip a dvd rn maybe I'll just hack my ps3 and get some homebrew program for extracting the iso into a usb connected drive or to my pc over the network
>>106466594I must have twenty or more, one of them is an external USB drive.
>>106466594You already made this thread. Come up with something new.
>>106466594My primary use for a DVD drive was for OS live & install discs, but now I have this USB 3.0 flash drive at the back of my PC for that so I rarely ever need to use DVDs anymore.
>>106466594What about minidisc readers?
