I've been using Linux Mint as my primary OS for about two months. I love it and the ideology behind Linux. It was a pleasure to learn the basics of the basics through Silberschatz's chibi dinosaur book, and I love C. It was nice to see how the kernel is hyper-optimized compared to commercial alternatives, from CPU scheduling algorithms to paging algorithms. Simply fantastic, and in these cases Windows and MacOS can't hold a candle. There is, however, a big but: what's on the outside. You see, before switching to Linux Mint, I did a lot of distro-hopping, going from Arch, Ubuntu, Fedora, and so on, and the underlying principles remain the same, but in terms of usability, good heavens, it feels like living in a house held together with Scotch tape. There's no coherence among the various desktop environments—XFCE, Cinnamon, LXDE, that load of crap that sounds like it was written by twelve-year-olds on LSD called KDE—leaves a lot of room for customization, neglecting the actual usability of the desktop environment, from file managers that crash when copying a few files to window decorations that conflict with various apps. What about the graphical server, between X11 and Wayland? Let's skip the details. A sore point is the software manager, starting with the basic one and then moving on to the containerized crap called flatpak, which makes sense, but it's impossible for these apps to be completely disconnected from the rest of the system. But do distributions that come ready to use, that can easily rival Windows and MacOS in terms of usability, actually exist? Mind you, I'm well aware that 98% of this board has been power users for decades. I know that despite this spoiled-ass bullshit, Linux remains a more than valid free alternative, but I also believe it will never take off unless things are done with a certain method and structure. Open source and FOSS are a blessing, but they also have to be done well. That said, are there distros for niggers like me?
Just use win 11 Wtf?
