>>106471057It depends on which aspects you're willing to compromise. Honestly I'd go with a rolling release distro from the start, it's probably where you'll end up later anyway.>has no shitty DEYou pick that during installation unless you opt for doing an offline install. Distros pack DEs differently and sometimes incomplete, e.g. EndeavourOS used to not include ffmpegthumbs for Plasma iirc so you'd end up missing thumbnails in the file manager.

>>106473163>You using W10 right now?No, just Mint
>>106472806OP asked for no shitty DE. The only one that matches this description is KDE.
>>106471057None of the above. You get usable, or you get stable. There's an inverse relationship between the two. Either you get a stable distro with horribly outdated packages (that you bandaid over with janky shit like Flatpaks and Distrobox, which is my preferred approach nowadays), or you use some rolling release garbage that has a new bug every day, and occasionally you get raped by an update and don't have the luxury to hold out on doing a major upgrade (not for long, anyway) like you can on point-release distros.Regarding DEs, the same is also true. They all suck in their own way and have unavoidable quirks. Either you use fancy new shit with a lot of features and a lot of bugs (KDE, Wayland, etc.), or you use "minimalist" shit built on old tech stacks that's lucky to get an update once every few years (XFCE, X, etc.)Personally, I think something based on Ubuntu LTS (including Mint), with Flatpaks/Distrobox, is the way to go, since you get a very stable base with modern hardware support via the HWE packages. I like Kubuntu 24.04, personally. 5.27 was a really stable, polished release of KDE, and Plasma 6 still has a ton of shitty little issues (for me, anyway).
>>106471057Just install Linux from stretch and stop bitchin.
>>106473338>The only one that matches this description is *KRRRRASHES*
It's Mint, it's been Mint for the past 10 years
>>106473436Are you on Debian 12 or another shitty LTS distro? KDE hasn't been unstable since 5.16.Actually, scratch that. Since you're looking at ZorinOS (a distro stuck in early 2022) you probably are using outdated and broken packages.
>>106471114I like cinnamon because it's way lighter weight than GNOME or KDE, but it has a lot of the same fancy features that are easy to setup, and it's also customizable enough for my tastes. Xfce is great, it's lightweight and very flexible, but it's more minimal and requires more fiddling to get things like custom system sounds.Just depends on whether you want a sane version of a "modern" desktop, or a more minimal, faster one.
>>106473484It's superseded by Aurora.>best DE (KDE)>wayland>atomic, semi-immutable = never breaks when updating>more recent packages = actually usable as a daily desktop system
