Do any other anons here think about what the least powerful/cheapest hardware you can get that still does everything you want to do?

Like having the cheapest shittiest smartphone that could replace all of your computer usage or something? I genuinely want to distance myself from my Desktop PC and even Laptop as I don't want to be "anchored down" somewhere and instead be more mobile while also not be reliant on powerful hardware.

It might just be my brain thinking about it as an optimization problem for having the least amount of hardware possible through my routine, but I spend way too much time thinking about this.

I'm way more excited about cheaper weaker hardware "downgrading" than about upgrading.

backing in my day we called it coping

I still use an i750 and I only buy $150 moto g smartphones

There's something liberating about only having one device and having everything that you need on it.

It's not about getting the most bang for your buck. It's about getting the absolute minimum required for doing all your tasks.

Based, however I'm curious as to why you still use your PC at all. I think a $100 smartphone in 2025 would be more powerful and could do everything your PC can, right? What purpose does the PC still service?

yes, to echo here you have what it needs, forget about rest, maybe, with exeptions and so

Cheaper than an RPi, yet more capable.

RPi is overpriced garbage if we're being honest.

I really notice this a lot. People with low IQ will view their self-worth as to what they own. People with high IQ will view their self-worth as to what they can do without.

Do you mean in a cost perspective or just the worst actual computational speed while still being efficient with wattage?
>>

This CPU was great when I was 15 years old but you're totally deluded if it 'still does everything you want to do' in 2025 you may as well buy an ipad
>>

I downgraded my pc to an i5-4590 earlier this year. It's enough to get everything I need to do done. Light VM usage, compile android apks.. Browser-wise everything is fine. IDE runs fine.
I like knowing that I could smash this thing with a hammer and be up and running again in a couple days by spending like $60
I also like not being distracted by prospects of fancy vidya.

If smartphone operating systems weren't complete ass I probably would have gone exclusively smartphone and just have some USB C hub with a keyboard+mouse+monitor attached to do everything on by now, yes.

>>106472610
All of it. For example I bought the absolute cheapest smartphone I could get (Samsung A15 which had a local deal so I got it for $50 new) and I'm actively underclocking its hardware to stretch the battery as long as possible while ensuring it can still do everything I need it to do.

Yes it's autistic as fuck, but this is /g/ you need to be on the spectrum to be here at all.

I still run a 5yr old Ryzen 5 and have no intention of upgrading because it does everything I need. I've seen way too many consoomers overspend on PC parts that it's kinda pushed me in the opposite direction

This one is very enticing to me as well. Knowing that I can get my workload and stack of daily drivers up and running on basically every hardware config out there because you already run on outdated hardware.
>>
I literally don't understand the concept of buying something new when the old thing still works. I still have all the clothes that still fit. I still have the car that works and I have the hardware that still works. I replace things when they break.

I think AMD cpu with graphics like 780m are the future.
>iGPU is powerful enough to run almost any game, even new aaa-slop
>cpu is basically 12100 on steroids
>cpu can fit almost in every tech - laptop, minipc, stationary pc, transformers, portable consoles
>suitable for any budget
For now AMD tops
