bloat
looking for something more lightweight

it is lightweight. Stop being pretentious.
>>
>>106472913
just use a pdf reader directly
>>
>>106472879
you can view local files with a web browser. it's bloat, but you already have it. no *additional* bloat.

want something to read epubs
also the ui is hideous and you're out of your mind if you defend it
>>
it's a rule of software that anything with the word "libre" in the name is a sack of bloated, unmaintained hobbyist project tier shit
>>
>>106473027
I'm out of my mind then. Absolutely love the UI - and calibre is one of maybe 4 things I actually use a UI for.

I use Zathura.
Calibre is huge overkill for just reading epubs, as you have noted.
The only halfway useful feature it has is acting as a runner for DRM removal tools, and that's just other people's code as a plugin.

Sadly this statement is true. I tried to find a counter-example for this but I failed.

Use AI to make a clone. Ask for feature it has.

Got to give props here. Not a zoomer jeet, did a good job.

If you have an eReader with 1000s of books there's simply nothing else out there that comes close.

paper books.

There is even this place that stores them for free for you. its called a library.
>>
>>106472879
I just read epubs on my phone (iphone default books app) bc all the PC readers suck so bad

There is absolutely no logical reason why browsers should support PDF and not EPUB when EPUBs are LITERALLY FUCKING HTML
THEYRE JUST HTML WHY CANT MY BROWSER OPEN IT

use foliate?
>>
>>106472879
I hate this thing. You install it, and it makes itself the default for every text format under the yellow sun. Why the fuck does that jeet think I want to open my docx files with Calibre?
>>106477485
I switched to this recently. It's great.
>>
>>106473027
I'm pretty sure there are browser extensions that let you read epub files since - you know - they are just zipped html files.

notepad

Been a while since I used this piecevof shit software but
>Makes a duplicate copy of every book in my library
>Unrepentantly uses 100% of processing power just to convert a few pdfs to ebooks interfering with other tasks
>Slow and clunky as shit interface
>Light mode
>>
>>106472879
This POS is a hellish nightmare. It does work... But Jesus. Its like.. I knew it was written by an Indian before I even looked at who wrote this crazy shit. It literally made me quit reading ebooks books. No shit. I went back to paper.
>>
>>106472879
I run it as a systemd service and connect remotely. I can download the book and use whatever viewer. I like florence.
>>
>>106479975
meant foliate not florence.
>>
>>106472879
>open source
>visible highlights and note taking
>cross platform syncing with notes and highlights
is this too much to ask?

None of the suggested alternatives ITT can reliably de-DRM ebooks, convert EPUB -> MOBI, and transfer them to a Kindle.
>>
Is there a better epub editor than the one built in?
The one built in works, rather well actually, and tools like sigil aren't really any better.

I don't need it for the HTML editing so much, that shit I could just use vim for, but the automated things like ToC extraction and format cleanup.
