Worth it to become a gamedev?
>>106473462worth what? using the hours you'd spend shitposting here to do something productive instead? nah mate, forget it
>eating some oily croissant or some shit>touching shitty office ABS keyboards right after (oleophilic)兄貴...
>>106473462its very fun if you like game dev but the pay is godawful unless you get super lucky. i don't think i've ever brought as much value to a company as i did when i worked in game dev, yet my pay was like half of what i earn now being a useless fuck in business software. my theory is that game dev attracts all sorts of retards so even if you're really good at it, all your efforts are diluted by the overall low productivity of the rest of the company.all in all, it's a mixed bag. game dev is something i enjoy vastly more than anything else, but it just sucks to do it professionally. the main reason i'd tell people to stay away is that it's probably much harder to pivot from game dev to something else nowadays because everything is so CV reader optimized. so if you start in game dev, you may very well be stuck with it
>>106473462This is a game I have ever seen>>106473524You don't like the shiny, slick, cold keys, anon?
>>106473560>so if you start in game dev, you may very well be stuck with itI heard the opposite from some people in various forums, there was even an interviewer who said he would instantly hire a game dev for his web shitter agency because game devs are good programmers.
>>106473584might be regional then, most hiring people here dont think you cant figure out java if you have "too much" c# experience
>>106473560>everything is so CV reader optimized. so if you start in game dev, you may very well be stuck with itQRD? What is your theory on this anon? What is the ideal title to start with? Genuinely interested.
>download unity>open it>read instructions>you are now gamedevif that's a committment that needs consideration then how the fuck have you ever done anything with your life up to this point
>>106473462Nobody sleeps in a bra
>>106473462She looks Jewish.
>>106473675i mean you just run into stuff like job postings explicitly asking for 5 years of experience in C# webdev but you might have 5 years of experience in C# game dev, which makes it a lot harder to get that job. webdev and game dev is pretty different even in the same language
>>106473462no. 15,000 games a year come out on Steam alone and 99% of them dont make any money. a lot of these games are of high quality, just lost in a vast sea of oversaturation
>>106473462ex-game dev here. its like becoming a cake maker because you love cake, after years of it you get sick to death of video games and cant stand them. the last thing you want to do when you get home from work is play fucking video games.I did it for 5 years. I quit, I now enjoy gaming again.
>>106473462That nose...
>>106474883If they were high quality and original, they would sell. It’s much easier to make a high quality copycat game then it used to be so now many genres are a dime a dozen and there’s far too many goon games. Making an interesting game is where the art side of game development begins and that’s what’s hard
>>106473725Are you saying this video was staged?
>>106473697>download unityyeah, that's why modern side-scrollers are 20x larger than doom2 with a fraction of the functionality or graphics.
>>106474883>a lot of these games are of high qualitydoubt
>>106473880that makes sense considering the difference between 5 years of webdev experience & 5 years of gamedev experience is way more significant than the difference between knowing C# & knowing some other language besides C#.
>>106476703>If they were high quality and original, they would sellThis isn't true of all, for almost all types of products.
