intel fell behind in the tech
they couldn't reach the smaller process nodes that amd could
they couldn't get the power efficiency that amd could
>>
>>106475004
Two reasons: firstly higher pitched sounds are always harder to block (don't ask me why, but something about the higher frequences makes them much harder to match exactly), and rapidly changing sounds are also much harder to block - since the active mechanism has to itself process the sound, generate an inverse soundwave and then generate it from the speakers, there's inherent lag in this. Works perfectly fine for uniform drones (like engine noise, to some degree background crowd chatter or engine noise), speech is a constantly varying sound and even a tiny bit of lag would result in the inverse waveform always lagging behind the real sound and therefore never quite cancelling it properly.

underdog story + intel antitrust bullshit got everyone riled up about "intel jews" and cheering for amd. then ryzen came out and it was genuinely really good
intel had been producing 4-thread midrange processors and 4-core/8-thread "high end" processors for a decade, when ryzen came out it instantly came with 8 core processors and started pushing up in the next couple of refreshes, WHILE also being pretty good at everything else
in the years after ryzen 1, amd has stalled a bit (we're still on 8 to 16 cores on desktop, and have been for several years already), but intel has been having a lot of troubles with its fabrication so it's getting worse and worse and amd has kept up with still making good cpus
the 3d cache was the newest improvement so now amd has the best processors both for workstations (more threads at a reasonable price point) AND for games

the problem of course is that if intel continues making shit cpus and amd continues maintaing the lead we might literally get a reversal of the situation, as in amd just having a monopoly and stalling any improvement and just coasting on their dominance while intel flounders and can't catch up - the fact is that both companies are jewish and enjoy milking consumers as much as they're able to when they can get away with it. but for the past few years amd has been the former underdog having a comeback and challenging the intel monpoly so they've been the ones putting out consistently good products while intel got caught and is struggling to improve

Kind of but not really. Pic is considered class leading ANC. Normal conversation peaks in the 500Hz range, at which point the $40 earcups give you 18dB of attenuation and the $200 ANC system gives you another 12dB. Raised voices puts you in the 1-2kHz range, at which point ANC totally checks out. You can jack up the ANC to get a little more attenuation, but that also adds to the 'pressure' feeling ANC causes when it's turned on.

Best method is to stack earmuffs and TWS earbuds.

Thanks for replies. I was already able to do it. I did have to disable secureboot via BIOS and then after install there was some weirdness with "failed to recover ME firmware" that I can't remember how I fixed. Also had to update BIOS for hibernation because it was draining the battery when it was closed.

I think what I was wondering is from their perspective, what it might look like after I had done all of this. Do they just see it offline? Or maybe they see it in a similar state to one they deactivated? I am just wondering why they don't seem to care to get it back.

Yes I checked that, mine starts at 192.168.1.64 and is the standard router default as per the manual, I saw that and figured 192.168.1.10 was perfect for me to remember. The router is a special boy and it's IP is 192.168.1.254, again this is the standard default.

>The actual static configuration doesn't involve your router beyond the DHCP offset setting.
Sure, but after reading that "recommendation" in the manual now I have to try another IP besides 192.168.1.10, 192.168.1.11 and 192.168.1.12 just to make sure it's not something weird the router does. It is odd because I've through every router config screen and if it's using those IPs, its not something I can even see.

I'm not 100% sure but I do know that at minimum if it's below the manufacturer max temp (usually around 100*C for most of them) it's fine at least for what would be considered a "normal" lifetime of a few years. If you plan on using the same CPU for more than a decade, here's where I'm not sure, it might be fine or it might gradually raise the odds of failure. Still, CPU failure is really pretty rare.

None of this answers your question actually. When it's not in throttling range, or like 80*C, it's almost certainly completely fine long term. In theory any kind of non-negligible thermal load and especially thermal cycling adds a tiny amount of stress, but it's really negligible.

Should be very easy with a script. And should be something an LLM can do if you don't feel like writing it yourself (or don't know how to). I expect both something like
>here's an example XML fragment, write me a JS webpage that takes the chat data from the XML and formats it like a chat history interface that I can scroll and navigate
or
>here's an example XML fragment, write me a script that converts it to something that looks like an IRC log text file to make it human readable
should be nearly one-shottable by a modern model like sonnet 4.

versus

ffmpeg -i temp.ts -c copy output.mp4

i get where you're coming from, but at the same time, a lot of them can be set up for you. regular balancing, scrubbing, can be automated by your distro ootb, checksumming is a passive benefit, automatic snapshots can be set up for you with tools like snapper, booting from a snapshot can be set up for you, reflinks are a passive benefit as many copy tools support them, etc.
>>
>>106477449
True, if someone (like your distro) supplies you tooling pre-configured to take advantage of btrfs then it's good. It can also do things like alias du to the btrfs command and whatnot, periodically run defragments automatically, etc.
I think you're right actually, most of btrfs can be automated (unlike a lot of the inconveniences and specific requirements of zfs for example). I was mainly talking about the perspective of just switching to btrfs yourself without any kind of pre-configured packaged environment designed to take advantage of it.
>>
>>106477472
sure, if you do it yourself or use a distro like arch where nothing is set up for you, then you will need to learn a number of things to benefit from most of it, though for something like arch you're going to have to learn a lot of things to take advantage of just about anything else, too
>>
>>106477498
>though for something like arch you're going to have to learn a lot of things to take advantage of just about anything else, too
Not true, and that's my point about "traditional" filesystems, you can just install ext4 or xfs and literally forget about your fs
>>
>>106477524
"anything else" as in not just filesystems. even traditional filesystems have features that you or your distro need to do to them to use. like fsck, defragging. there's not much to do with them simply because they don't have many features.
but again, i understand your point, if you "do nothing" with btrfs then there will be little advantage to btrfs, with only a few of it's benefits being entirely passive, like reflinks, checksums, and not needing fsck

I bought a backup and backed up my stuff a little while ago, feels like I should backup again.
How are you supposed to do this? I feel retarded but I'm confused about whether people just delete the previous backups and do it over again or if there's some program that has an automatically updating backup system.
I bought some seagate backup drive but I don't remember it ever mentioning automatic backing up.
>>
>>106478106
It's called incremental backup. Look at borg or restic
The way it works is it saves exactly the changes that happened between the last time you backed up and now. So you get the ability to keep both as checkpoints that you can restore, but without duplicating an entire second copy.

If you set it automatic backups then you can also set it up so it keeps e.g. daily checkpoints for the last week, then weekly checkpoints for the month before, etc... with auto-cleanup of older checkpoints to make it take even less space while keeping letting you rollback to an exact time for recent backups. But if you're just occasionally backing up by hand then you don't need to overcomplicate it, it'll just make a new snapshot on every backup
>>
>>106478106
Also I should add, if you just want a single copy that's kept up to date then something like rsync would be the tool to use, though if you're on windows or something then I dunno. But that's less safe than proper incremental backups, because if e.g. you delete a bunch of files and then take a new backup and then realise whoops you needed those files, that's exactly what backups are for, but if you "backup" by updating an exact copy then those files will be gone too. Or if some files corrupt and you don't notice at first and overwrite your backup. Etc. etc.

i want to start seeding a lot of torrents. several tb. Will need to buy new disks for this. 24/7, long term. What is better for this purpose, ssds or hdds?

hdds are cheaper per tb but noisy, more power hungry, and i worry if all the different small reads, the random read performance, is just not sure to this task. poor plates spinning 24/7, poor arm and head constantly moving here and there trying to read bits of data all over the place. ill buy good hdds, nas or enterprise tier, but still, feels like the wrong hardware for this workload.
ssds feel right, no moving parts and physical stress, less power, silent... but more expensive. but im willing to pay more if its the correct choice.

You conflate using a filesystem with installing an OS on a filesystem.
Think of it in terms of adding a secondary disk in your computer and deciding what to format it with – all your previous arguments completely ignore this use case.
The distro is irrelevant in this case, users have to rely 100% on knowledge (or lack of it) and ext4 is hands down the safer bet if you don't want to babysit your storage.

>hdds are cheaper per tb but noisy, more power hungry
This is all you need to worry about.
>and i worry if all the different small reads, the random read performance
Even the worst case does no harm to the disks, and torrent-related reads are not that small to begin with since you'll probably be dealing with 2MB chunks or even bigger.
>>
>>106480612
sure, if it's added storage like an external drive or just any other drive the OS won't handle automatically, then you will likely need to configure some of those yourself, like adding it to snapper, configuring whatever does balancing/scrubbing maybe. i couldn't say any specific regarding that as i haven't used those kinds of "easy" distros in a long time, before btrfs was a thing.
i don't believe we're in disagreement. though i'm not sure i could say btrfs is worse than ext4 even in the case where it's completely unmanaged. i use btrfs on my external drives as well, i use it for everything, and i can't say i run balances/scrubs on them as often as i should (read: sometimes basically never), and they work just fine. about the only thing i can think of which may be unexpected is if btrfs appears to run out of space earlier than expected, but even ext4 has it's own similar gotcha in that regard. i'm sure you've seen countless people wonder why an ext4 disc seems to be 5% smaller than it should be. it's not the same issue or cause for sure, but i'm sure you understand my point. all filesystems have their quirks
>>
>>106480726
on that last note, while ext4 doesn't run out of space unexpectedly (that is, how much space it reports at the beginning is exactly how much space you have to use), this is because it preallocates inodes at mkfs time. which has it's own unexpected behaviour of appearing to have reduced space available from the start compared to other filesystems. while btrfs allocates metadata on-demand, so space may appear to go down a bit faster than you'd expect since userspace tools don't typically account for metadata.
which one is better isn't really clear. for ext4 in some cases the default inode count may be overkill, wasting space by the time the disc is full. and the 5% reserved space is often overkill nowadays, too, not to mention it's not really useful on non-root drives. it's configurable, but we're talking about defaults/not touching anything here, so it's relevant

In Thunderbird you can mark mail as "junk", and it's got an auto-learning filter that can then automatically mark incoming mail as junk too, which works pretty reliably for me (and the kind of spam that I get). But it still plays a notification for incoming email even when it's a spam email that it successfully identified and marked as junk; is there a way to turn that off? I can't find any sort of "don't send desktop notifiations for incoming mail detected as junk" setting.

I don't really care if it still shows as unread in my inbox or whatever (there's still a theoretical chance of false positives, however small, so I can just check later and mark them as read), I just don't want to have the notification pop up on my desktop and play the sound for things which thunderbird KNOWS (with very high certainty) are spam.

Spinning 24/7 is completely fine for HDDs, they can spin for decades with no issue. Constantly spinning up and spinning back down causes much more wear and tear. Make sure you configure your seedbox to disable power saving on the HDDs, so it keeps them spun up rather than constantly spinning them up and down depending on which torrent is getting seeded at a given time.
The arm and head movement is a valid concern but it really won't move that much during torrenting. An nas/enterprise HDD with a 5 year warranty will be explicitly designed to spend 5 years constantly seeking. HDDs are really a wonder of mechanical engineering IMO for how incredibly reliable the mechanical parts are while also being incredibly precise, don't underestimate their durability.

It's true that an SSD will probably last longer, the read-only usecase of a seedbox is very kind of the flash memory. But HDDs will also work just fine, and are vastly cheaper for bulk storage. Even IF you have to replace some of them, it will probably still be cheaper than SSDs, and mind you it's not like an SSD is guaranteed to last forever - any storage can fail randomly at any time. So just make sure your storage is design to handle disk failure, which it should be either way, and you're good with HDDs.

The only exception might be if "several tb" is like 2-4 tb at most, in which case SSDs might be affordable while for HDDs this would be a very low capacity and getting into diminishing returns. (Nowadays you should be looking at 12-16+TB per HDD for good value, check diskprices.com for price per TB.) In that case you might say fuck it and pay a slight premium for SSDs if you want to.
>>
>>106481831
Why would you need/want that?
>>
>>106481831
Audio is still hw accelerated, it just uses $0.50 microcontrollers that can be built into anything so you almost never need to buy a "sound card" anymore.
It's also trivial for CPUs but it's typically kept separate because audio is quite sensitive to EMF interference. Having a tiny separate chip that's just a bit outside the rest of the processing stuff helps massively to avoid having to worry about this.

Separate audio devices still exist, but are mostly relegated to audiophiles. Since audio is an analog medium, digital audio is always going to be an approximation, and you can always make the audio processing more powerful to make it better - but with diminishing returns. So for the majority of consumers the built-in audio chip is more than good enough.

Yes, stupid. That's how it finds feeds for you. "Your data for all websites" means "it wants to look at anything on any page that isn't on our small list of 'safe' data types or whatever". Ublock origin asks for that too.

I do find colour helpful, and to some degree helps parse important things at a glance.
>gay ass IDE themes
People do act very gay about it at times. Your IDE is a tool and the syntax highlighting is itself a part of that tool, not a fashion statement to post on reddit. I haven't changed my colour theme in like 7+ years by now, because it works well for me so why would I? Syntax highlighting for easier code readability is useful, syntax highlighting for ricing in pretty colours that you swap out every couple of months is just vanity.
Having the same colours forever also makes it easy to get used to them and internalise the colour information for parsing - I know variables are this colour, types are this colour, brackets and keywords are this colour, etc..
>more focused
It's also important to choose a theme with good contrast. Selenized and gruvbox are two that I know are good off the top of my head. Plenty of themes (including even the original solarized) makes certain colours harder to see than others, often significantly harder, and if there's any word in your editor that you can't read at a glance because the colour is slightly too pale or hard to see then it has failed. Many themes are very much random or chosen for aesthetics and really drop the ball on readability.

At the end of the day it's all preference, if you actually prefer using monochrome then that's what you should use. I'm just saying that there are a lot of garbage colour themes out there, and there's a whole "IDE ricing" culture that I really don't fucking understand either.

Are decompilers actually useful for anything practical? Like yeah you can take a .exe and get source code out of it, and if you compiled it again you should in theory get the same program, but when you decompile something you end up with source code that is totally unreadable. It seems like it would be practically useless for most cases. Or is there some way to make it more human readable?

This came out of wanting to look at the source code for that old fish tycoon game... pic related is a random piece of decompiled code.

Well, here is the manual way. If you cannot write to your /system partition (i.e. you're not rooted) get a copy of adb and run 'adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 <package>', this "uninstalls" the package for your user. If you can write to /system, simply delete or corrupt the unwanted APK(s) (might be in /system/app, /system/priv-app, etc).

If you're given an unknown binary, and your task is to figure out what it does, it's a lot easier to stare at the output of the decompiler than it is to stare at the raw hex bytes of the binary.
It's not easy, sure, but if all you had to work with was the binary, then it'd be practically impossible.

Hmm, ask in /hsg/, I'm not sure what the pros and cons of 2.5'' are.
For 6+tb and growing I'd just buy a couple of 8, 10, 12 or 16tb disks, depending on how much you expect it to grow and what deals show up on diskprices. I still think you're overthinking it.
Heck, people usually say to buy refurb because it's often cheaper by a wide enough margin that even if the expected life might be shorter than brand new disks, you still get more value even when factoring in replacement costs. Especially if the refurb comes with a good warranty.

I would like to be able to harass them in the rare event that the internet goes down

I could probably force them onto Signal, Skype or Discord, but I'm convinced something like this exists

I have an ancient torrent magnet link. I also have all the files from that torrent. However, the torrent from the magnet has no peers right now, and may not have for a while.
For archival purposes, I'd like to seed the torrent, since there's a tiny chance someone might like to download it some day and would be happy to have a seeded. (It happened to me a while ago, I had it open for months in the background and one day a seeder appeared out of nowhere.) Because this magnet link exists already in some ancient pastebins and forum posts, posts that someone searching specifically for this archive might likely find, I would like to seed exactly this magnet and not just make a new torrent out of the files.

Is there any way to force transmission (or another client) to match the files to the magnet? Or would e.g. creating a new magnet come up with an identical hash, or something like that? Or am I out of luck until one day a peer arrives and lets me download the metadata (thus allowing my client to verify my local files)
>>
>>106487241

Creating a new torrent you mean. You could try that but it's likely it'll end up with a different hash.

Any chip card out there (such as SIM) roughly acts as a storage for a private encryption key. On an eSIM you store that key somewhere in the OS.

A lot of people talk about terraforming Mars but why not terraform the moon? I think it just simply can't hold an atmosphere at all at significant pressures. I'm no expert on gas mechanics at planetary scales but intuitively I think it's quite likely that if you try to over-pressurise the atmosphere, it will expand outwards at the rate of pressure propagation in a gas (which is the speed of sound), and once it gets far enough away from the moon it will just escape immediately. The Moon is absolutely tiny so the pressure it can actually hold with its gravity will likely be far too little for anything resembling terraforming.
Mars's atmosphere is thin because it got ablated by solar wind due to its lack of a magnetic core, but the Moon is simply objectively minuscule compared to a planet. Remember that mass (and hence gravitational force) is a function of the cube of the radius.

This is my second month of using Slackware and actually daily driving linux beyond playing with it in VMs and old laptops. I'm really getting the hang of it and I love it a lot. NEVER looking back.
Point is, sudo is extremely annoying. I reinstalled Slackware on my machine only now with less garbage, including sudo. I just have a root user and do everything as root. It's pretty badass. Is that weird? I don't care about all programs I run having root perms since it's all foss and I'm very specific about what I put inside my computer. Plus I never update anyway.
>>
>>106492527
What do you mean in what way? The microcontroller goes into a low power standby, but still detects button presses. Presumably it turns off the sensor too. Better made mice might be able to put the sensor itself into a low-power mode rather than turning it off entirely (which requires the sensor to support it, and the mouse manufacturer to have bothered with it).
>>
>>106492823
It's weird in the sense that all programs you use can access and change literally everything on your computer. FOSS software can have bugs and exploits too. Especially running a web browser as root feels very risky to me.
Sudo is bloat but e.g. doas exists which does the same thing and is a LOT smaller and easier to configure. Unless your issue was having to type "sudo" before commands in general, but how often do you actually need to do that? I've been using linux for a decade and the only regular operation I do that requires sudo is system updates, the rare times I have to install a new package, and the very rare times when I need to change something about my system or configure some system service etc. Typing sudo (or in my case, doas) before certain commands is really not a big deal. What are you doing that sudo was that annoying for you?
>>
>>106492906
not him but there's more options than that as well. i use sudo, but i've configured it so some regular operations (like using emerge) are passwordless. it's lazy but i lock my screen before leaving my computer anyway.
running as root is usually unnecessarily far, but as long as he understands what it means then whatever, it's his computer
>>
>>106492944
Yeah IMO the main danger on a single-user machine is running all your big software as root. Maybe if you log in as root but you run things like your browser in a well made sandbox/jail, then it's probably pretty much fine. (Though having to invoke the sandbox and deal with file synchronisation issue e.g. for downlaods etc. sounds like much more hassle than simply typing sudo sometimes.)

>I'm very specific about what I put inside my computer.
only running trusted software is one thing, but even trusted software can have bugs. it's good practice to have your system set up to assume any software, trusted or not, is untrustworthy, at least to some extent. naturally that rabbit hole has a bit of depth to it, i'm not confident i can trust any browser with write access to every folder on my system, including network shares. (my web browser is one of a few programs i run in a sandbox with even more limited access to resouces, network (esp. internet)-facing programs in general should be treated with extra care as they're prime targets and face the internet)

>>106492981
even setting sudo entirely passwordless, which you can do, is better than running as root. a program would have to deliberately attempt to use sudo to do anything, rather than just being able to do anything regardless.
>>
Fledgling torrenter. I almost always try to seed enough to make my ratio 1 or higher, but I notice my torrent filepath will break if I modify the folder created or move/delete items around. Is there a way to reformat my torrent or allow it to seed incomplete for the remaining files I kept? I already elect to not download an entire torrent if I don't see the need, but even when fragmented I know I'm still seeding what I downloaded if I don't actually touch the payloads.
>>
>>106493006
Sure, 1dd1862c075068685b1ae15ea4e1487b58c1f75a
The trackers in the magnet are opentrackr.org and openbittorent.com (I did say it's pretty old)
And like I said this was a pretty obscure and niche torrent that I had to idle for months until a single seeded got online one day, so I'm not too surprised to see that its metadata didn't get saved on a site like this
>>

look for an option to rescan local files in your client. due to the way torrents work, removing one file of a multi-file torrent may break one or two other files.
the reason for this is that torrents are kind of like a tape archive, where all the files are concatenated together and split into blocks for hashing and transfer. because transfers are done with blocks that may cross file boundaries, removing a file may remove part of a block that a remaining file is part of.
i'm sure you've noticed that selecting specific files in a torrent doesn't guarantee it doesn't download a bit of other files too, this is because of the same reason, just in reverse.

>why not terraform the moon?
Not enough gravity, zero atmosphere and zero chances of retaining one.
Terraforming Mars is also not possible since Mars lacks a magnetic field and this is not solvable. Radiation would kill pretty much every form of life known on Earth.
>>

>one or two other files
well, one or more really, files can be smaller than blocks so it really depends on the block size chosen and the file sizes involved

In qBittorrent you can rename the directory inside a torrent, or relocate the torrent entirely and rename its files. But you have to do it from qB's interface.

>But you have to do it from qB's interface.
As I mentioned, I am new. What other interfaces could I possibly be using erroniously try to alter, or are you saying editing qbit's filepaths will have no effect on other regular clients like say ktorrent?
I ask because while I'm happy with qBit as my client I want to secure my torrent traffic more. The brief research and polling I've done suggests that enceypting my torrents will do nothing to hide the traffic and a VPN would be the reasonable way to go. Is this wholesale true? If so, got a torrent-friendly VPN to rec?

I have a Logitech G515 keyboard (similar to https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Lightspeed-Tenkeyless-Double-Shot-Mechanical/dp/B0D1FPX5SC).
The keyboard can be connected by bluetooth or a wireless USB dongle receiver.
I have said USB receiver connected to a Lenovo Universal Docking Station's USB-A port.
The docking station is connected to my Thinkpad via USB-C (probably irrelevant).
I have Windows 11 Pro on the Thinkpad.

Whenever I stop using my keyboard for a while, it kind of "turns off" as if to save the keyboard's battery charge or something. So whenever I start typing again, there is a small delay before all keys start working properly (I think it's usually CTRL/Shift/Alt, and so on that's slow to react). I can also tell the delay because the dynamic lightning starts with default upon "wake up", for a few seconds.

>My stupid question:
How do I stop this "turn off keyboard to save power" setting and where should I look for it?

Google results didn't help - they say I should go to Device Manager/right click Properties/etc and look for Power Management, but there is no Power Management on any of the keyboards in Device Manager. The second most common recommendation is Power Options > Change advanced power settings. Already been there, and I turned off "USB selective suspend setting". But I guess this wouldn't be it anyway, I assume this setting prevents the charging of a connected keyboard via USB, to save power on the laptop itself.

So, where else can I look?
>>
>>106493751
>What other interfaces could I possibly be using erroniously try to alter
I think he's saying if you just move the files around (using your normal file explorer) then qB won't pick up on it. But like the other anon said you should be able to force qB to rescan and it'll pick any changes.
I.e.
>use qB to select "move torrent", select new directory
>qB copies the files over and continues seeding
vs.
>manually move the files over
>qB thinks they're just missing now
>to fix this you use "move torrent" so qB starts looking in the new place
>but it won't automatically read what's already there, so you force a re-scan of local files, and then qB realises that all the torrent files are available and it doesn't need to download them

>VPN
Yeah. Torrenting is p2p so everyone in a torrent swarm is downloading directly from everyone else's IP. Encrypted torrents help somewhat against people who are not in the swarm, e.g. your ISP won't be able to see what you're torrenting, so if you just want to protect against passive analysis then it's good enough. But if your country cares about copyright a lot, what companies do is they just start downloading the torrent themselves, and this way they just get the IPs of everyone else seeding the torrent.
For this you need a VPN to actually hide your IP, so anybody downloading from you (including both legitimate users but also any law enforcement trying to datamine for copyright infringement purposes) doesn't get to download directly from your real IP but has to go through the VPN first.

So it depends on your threat model. For example where I live I've never bothered with a VPN.

In qB you can import the torrent file and then right click on it -> Set location.
Perhaps the containing folder was renamed on your end? Should be named HPBackup.
Failing all that, you could upload the zip and txt somewhere and post the links so others can try.

>>106493751
>are you saying editing qbit's filepaths will have no effect on other regular clients like say ktorrent?
Yes. The torrent itself can't be altered so qB stores all your changes in ~.local/share/qBittorrent/BT_backup/<infohash>.fastresume.
The parts of files you choose not to download are stored in .parts files when downloading them is unavoidable (part of the same chunk as some file you want to download).

Americans are buying more unlocked phones, and the carriers aren't selling them SIMs, so they're using eSIMs now.

The pressure is a byproduct of extremely high temperatures from runaway greenhouse gasses. Carbon Dioxide is over 90% of the atmosphere.

This is why I mentioned custom-made microbes. It is possible to introduce organisms that could trap the carbon and release the oxygen and 'work their way down" from the upper atmosphere.

Cloud seeding Venus is much easier than moving a moon from a gas giant to kick-start Mars's magnetic field.

Simple answer: if it's something that you're meant to execute (e.g. games, other software), it's a reasonable concern. Download from trusted sources and use antivirus software. Otherwise, you almost certainly won't.

That's the right way to think about it.

Highly unlikely.

As above, it's a possibility.
>uploads >5 years old?
Everything else equal, less likely. Any exploits available 5 years ago are less likely to work today.

Also less likely. Linux users are less common, so malware that works against Linux is less common.

If you have a laptop, could tell me your screen size, screen resolution, and the scaling you have set in your OS?

Hardcore baby question,

If I pop out the SD card on my raspberry pi and slap in a new one, is it essentially an entirely new computer? There's literally nothing else on the pie remaining of the "old computer"

I can fuck up the "new computer" And if shit goes horribly wrong I can pop in the old card again like nothing ever happened?

What's your scaling at? On Windows it's under display settings
>Why?
I'm just thinking about what screen size I'd like, and I'm interested in what scaling people have with a given size
>>
>>106503137
Correct. It's all isolated to the SD card.
The only exception is firmware, if you upgrade it from one card then it will stay upgraded when you remove that card.

Can you still use Windows Media Creation Tool to make a Windows 10 installation after October?

Or do you have to make the backup image now?

Why does nobody use Krita in the industry or even in the "Popular Twitter artist" type circles?
>>
>>106504007
this is what I've read online
generally the free programs (like krita or blender) don't get used by companies because of the availability of customer support. if something's wrong then a company can just snap their fingers and get it fixed but with software that is ''built on a community'' you often can't reliably get support to fix problems. for a company paying the fee is nothing compared to potential headache trying to solve a problem
you might have more luck going to /3/ or /i(c)/ and ask there
>in the "Popular Twitter artist" type circles
those artists are (or were) often professional artists that already know the programs and settings

4chanX got disabled in Chrome today. Is there a new version or a workaround to re-enable it?

What >>106504519 said plus the cost of most software is typically a tiny fraction of the money a company makes while using it.

Userscript version. Also, chromium is shit

Elaborate or link? I am not a clever man.

Check the install page. I'm not sure if the userscript extensions are removed from Chrome as well. If so, you might need to try a different one, one not listed in the website that still exists on Chrome
>>
>>106504965
I think tampermonkey is the only MV3 userscript manager so get that extension. Then go to the 4chanX site and press the install button, the userscript manager should recognize the file as a userscript and allow you to install it
>>
Why does Firefox need Tampermonkey to run 4chan X? Chrome had a built in extension that could epically sync your bookmarked threads between devices.

Is there an open source web rendering engine that is just the rendering engine itself and no http requests or anything

Add a horizontal construction line, add a symmetry constraint to the corner points on your external geometry, then add a symmetry constraint from the corner points of your rectangle to the construction line. Like picrel, if you imagine that the outer box is your external geometry.
>>
>>106505565
>Add a horizontal construction line
How?
>>
>>106505718
Switch to construction geometry, then draw a line.

I have this weird situation with my two switches. I have one connected to my router and the other connected to the first one. But after some time the speeds on the second one fall through the floor and a simple restart fixes it. What could be causing this? Running wireshark or whatever captures gigabites of data in a couple of minutes but i don't know what is normal. Most of it is the switches probing around it seems but at least one of them has some anti loop feature so idk.

RmlUi (fork of the old libRocket) seems to support some more css features than litehtml, they also provide some example renderers - but only the opengl3 one seems to support all of the features though
