I'm ashamed to admit that for the longest time I didn't know why some options in GUIs had underscored letters
>>
Better now than never. You can take advantage of this new information.
>>
VIM coders be acting like they’re a Korean StarCraft pro for saving 0.3 seconds moving a letter to the left and refusing to use 4 spaces in place of tabs
>>
why does cancel have none?
>>
for the love of god put the computer classes back into schools for these morons
>>
>>106475106
because you already know what the hotkey is to cancel the dialog.
>>
>>106475106
it's probably esc like usual (unless wangblows fucked that one up too)
>>
>>106475109
Won't make a difference. Everything is either using GUI or mouse only.
I mean, fuck, once I resized a window and moved it outside of the monitor and I didn't knew you could alt+space to open the resize/move using the keyboard and I had to look it up. This was back in the early 2000s and I still used windows 98. Good times.

>>106475106
ESCape is usually the default to cancel something. ALT+F4 iirc also works, but I'm not 100% sure of that one.
>>
>>106475098
you're smarter than most zoomers that don't understand what a file system is
>>
>>106475162
a file system is an arbitrary abstraction over disk contents and not inherently any better than just scrolling 500 times through your camera roll without being able to copy and paste anything
>>
>>106475124
>>106475159
but what if you have bound escape to something different?
>>
>>106475210
what if your keyboard is actually plugged into another computer?
>>
>>106475210
That's why it depends.
Also, if you've bound ESC to do something else (software side, like with Corsair's iCUE software or whatever it is called) then, if you press ESCape, you're not sending ESCape to the program, aren't you.
>>
For all its faults, Windows is pretty great for accessibility stuff like this. You can do almost everything even with a broken mouse.
>>
>>106475098
Aaand it's gone

>>106475210

It's mostly older shit, because some of the software on windows have been made before using a mouse + keyboard was mainstream, or at least it was made with the idea that, if you somehow only have a keyboard, you can still use their software with only the keyboard.
I remember creating interfaces using borland delphi 7 and you could choose the keyboard shortcuts and the order that pressing tab changes which item was highlighted. You don't see the same stuff anymore because nobody thinks about using a PC without a mouse, outside of terminals and servers and, even then, because of microsoft's immense retardation, this is being removed, like >>106475241 showed.
>>
>>106475105
Fair criticism but I actually am like 10x faster at using any computer than most people.
>>
>>106475098
In pre-ribbon Paint you can use + and - to increase the brush size to beyond the 3 preset sizes.
>>
>>106475105
if you use vim you are demonstrably like 20x faster than most retards using any program at all
>>
>>106475109
>for the love of god put the computer classes back into schools for these morons
Computer class doesn't give this information, I have had computer class in elementary and it was you mostly winging it and learning how to type but, that's about it.
>>
>>106475225
What if you don't have a keyboard?
>>
>>106475105
>refusing to use 4 spaces in place of tabs
If your editor doesn't auto-insert the correct number of spaces for you via the Tab key, you are truly missing out.

>>106475210
>but what if you have bound escape to something different?
Then you made your choice, and that's your problem.
Might as well ask "What if the 'S' key was bound to something else?"
>>
>>106475241
Still works though.
>>
>>106475907
>Might as well ask "What if the 'S' key was bound to something else?"
what if I bound the down arrow to S? Since S is the down arrow in gaming?

For the longest time, I didn't realize that interstate exits (in the US) were numbered based on how many miles they were from the start of the interstate.

You can thank IBM for this. Way back when (I think in the 70’s?), they developed standards for applications on computers. Microsoft implemented these standards, as did many other software developers, and it’s why almost all DOS era applications have the top menu, press key to open submenu, select and so on. It kind of died with the advent of windowed OS’es, but it’s DNA is absolutely everywhere. I’m sure in the next decade it’ll become less common, as people move away from frameworks like Win32 that implement a lot of it automatically. Web Apps have been a disaster for standardised UIs and accessibility

Yup, I don' use printers a lot and why should I?
That being said each printer does something diffrent so learning how one printer does something doesn't guarantee it works on another printer.

if you think that's obscure trivia, then you're just demonstrating his point. using a computer these days is an important life skill for many jobs and just life in general. you should know basic things like this
