I used to work at a University. There was a professor there who was into this new age mysticism crap. She had paying customers who would get readings/guidance from her. She told me she paid Indians through some platform I'd never heard of to make a site with a paid quiz on it. I looked over the code and realized it was all a scam. The quiz didn't do anything. It just randomly spat out advice at the end.

I also went to school with a guy who believed in a lot of this pseudoscience bs. He has a CS degree, but he just works a min wage job now. He also spends money on potions, and subs to affirmation/materializing wealth/happiness courses.

I'm dumb af for not getting on this. I also remember trolling people on new age mysticism pages on FB when I was a kid. I'm sure they would pay $ for this stuff.

don't be evil. it's bad for your soul.

Okay. Challenge accepted. Goal is to design a method of divination which can accurately predict who is a legit mystic and whether someone is in it for money.

We can automatically exclude each system which makes any assumption of strict dichotomy, or you would miss the obvious circumstance of a mage looking to get mortal retirement going.

It's not evil. People who believe in that bullshit cannot be helped in any other way.

Taking advantage of foolish people is still evil, anon.

materialists aren't gonna make it

that being said, true mysticism is free and liberating. fake spiritual swindlers has always been a common theme in the dark epoch we're in. many ancient texts have warned about it. it's not new.

Orange Reddit is full of AI 'companion' startups, these are the same type of thing.

Then again, it's a fact that astrology is real and impacts many things even in the economy. There is a field for this study, astro-economics.

i also had a professor who was into new age crap. seems to be theme among boomers to find spirituality in crazy shit later in life. my mom is also super into psychics and mediums, in addition to being 'catholic'.
you can look at it this way, people will always crave for something to believe in. it's a big part of the human psyche and some people need this more than others, so they start to believe in aliens and healing stones because they have a post-religious mentality.

i believe in the science unironically. we will make it.
