How is this piece of shit considered one of the most secure messengers when it doesn't even have end to end encryption by default? What kind of psyops is this?
>>
the one where your liberal governmental censorship does not work

not touching that shit

>How is this piece of shit

Indeed, it is a piece of shit.

My company basically forced me to "open" a Telegram account. Telegram won't let me register my phone number because it says it is already registered on other device (bullshit). No technical support or no support of any kind is really available. I had to use my wife's phone number.

The UI sucks, too.

Same. All I want is something that doesn't require a phone number that works on desktop and mobile. Why can't we have that?
>>
>>106478184
why is it so popular in the third world?

FSB+Telegram is perfectly secure

All i need to know is french government hates it. That's a good argument for me.
>>
>>106478184
Because a lot of small time criminals use it and make people think this means it's secure, also a lot of sim swappers use it so they don't care too much about the phone number requirement
>>
>>106478184
It has cloud encryption + very lenient policy on pretty much everything, which is enough for 90% of people out there. E2EE is not a holy grail of security and requires you to do constant backups that most people will do incorrectly.
>>106478365
pretty much all platforms that do not require phone numbers have 100 times more spam than telegram. If you want to make an alt, you can buy working disposable numbers that cost like 30 cents.

I trust Russia more than the US. Unironically. Putin isn't locking people up for thought crimes, but the West does.

Its not. It never has been. Where do you get your info from?
>>
Been using telegram every single day for the last 13+ years. Couldn't be happier with it.
I haven't paid for the premium subscription yet though, but might do at some point.
>>
>>106480503
What are its uses and which social media sites would you compare it to?
>>
>>106478184
>"considered one of the most secure messengers"
By WHOM?
>>
>>106478818
SilentX is that but it doesnt have a large enough community.
>>
>>106480651
It's uses are talking to friends and strangers privately or on group chats, as well as following channels that post videos, photos or info of your interest. I can't compare it to any social media sites because I don't have any social media.

I think you can make it "more" like a social media site by having your own channel and uploading "stories" (whatever that means) but I've never used that.

from what i know tudrys like to use it as a means of prostitution or sell porn ,子供 to be exact

Marketing. Durov brothers are known for VK which used to be a much, much better Facebook, and Pavel's brother is allegedly a genius mathematician, so everyone believed their "trust me bro" statements, especially after Durov was ousted from VK, emigrated, and thus was assumed to be opposed to the Russian government.

People in Russia and Belarus are now being jailed on the basis of being subscribed to the wrong "channels" (even without their phones accessed by the police), so that's all you need to know about its actual security and the likelihood of its collaboration with the FSB/MVD/SK/other silovikis. And the police can easily ask carriers to intercept SMS to certain numbers or make fake SIM cards, so any service where you sign up with a Russian SIM card (or roaming in Russia with any SIM card) is by default wide open to the authorities. Even "secure" chats aren't very secure because who's part of those chats is known and it's usually enough to incriminate someone (and then fake the rest of the evidence).

They banned calls but they're still apprehensive about banning Telegram outright because the propagandists have an immense following there, more so than the anti-government personalities, and because many, many Russian military units in Ukraine are using Telegram to communicate between themselves and coordinate with drones. Also it's still quite hard to block Telegram, even though Roskomnadzor now has better tools at its disposal. Calls were easy because most messengers rely on STUN and similar well-known protocols to establish a P2P connection, and non-P2P calls work like complete garbage (it can probably be fixed by the services, but the lag would still be relatively high and they'll have to pay for more infra).
>>
>>106481051
Nah, never heard about anyone being jailed in Belarus without police checking your phone.
But they check the phone of every person they detain for any reason, even random drunk hobos
