Xperia phones exist.

"Deprecated" software doesn't have the needed backdoors for the NSA/CIA/FBI/local LE to spy on you.
>buy new

Anything before Android 10 puts you in very serious danger of 0-days because those are likely to use libwebp internally that never got updated so visiting a site with an infected webp could legit get you hacked.

This could be another reason Google is going apeshit over blocking third party apps. Some of them could be intentionally using outdated libwebp to build botnets and google doesn't like blackhats infringing on their criminal activities.

However if you can install sat graphene on an old Android phone then you're good.

i'm on android 9 right now but does this webp exploit affect me if i browse the web with up to date firefox?
>>
>>106483139
Yeah, it does, because every app on Android is containerized, meaning that all of them could use different version of the same library, without interference, but that also means that malware could be packaged with a vulnerable library.
If you can install an actual Linux distro on your phone (and not use Snap, Flatpak, or AppImage) you're good.

Maybe not but the panic seems to stem from an internal libwebp decoder used to generate the webp thumbnails so the most dangerous thing you should avoid is downloading webp images from shady websites.

It's a big shame really, webp and jpeg xl are the only good replacements for PNG/GIF but google just had to fuck it up for everyone by letting a 0 day like this slip through. At the same time they refuse to adopt jpeg xl so we're stick in some kind of image codec hell. Though libjxl has also had serious security vulnerabilities that are being exploited on iPhones right now so maybe waiting is the right thing to do.

I hate webp so much it's unreal

I have a Verizon one of those phones and they didn't give me the last security patch until almost a year later, fucking jews.
I refuse to let it go online it's so outdated. It's an IP camera now locked to my home network.

None if you know what you're doing.

Aren't decent samsung phones old as fuck? They removed the headphone jack not long after Apple. You will probably have a lot of apps that don't support the android version.
I have a Mi 9TPro which is old but it works.
