Hi /g/! I'm from /o/. I need a stereo for my new shitbox (picrel). It would be nice to get one that can run Android so that I can leave my phone at home. Can anyone suggest one?Ideally, I want one that I can install an open source firmware on, but I don't see any stereos listed on LineageOS's device compatibility list (maybe there's another distro commonly used for radios?), and I would settle for mystery-meat OS as long as it doesn't require a Google account and I can install stuff from FDroid. I've had a look around AliExpress, but the ads don't have any specific information about the OS they're running. I don't want to buy something and then find that I have to make a Google account to use it. I also don't want to buy something and then find that I can't install OSMAnd on it.
>>106484228Biggest lottery is finding one with good microphone for calls. Most are unusable for calls.
>>106484228Fuck this fucking piece of shit of a car. I failed the driving exam five fucking times because of how thoroughly raped was the clutch pedal. I switched to a Honda in the same exam center and I passed first time despite never having driven the car.
>>106484421ur just bad at driving
>>106484383Good to know. I don't mind keeping a headset in the car.>>106484421I just bought this one a couple weeks ago for ~$1200. It's getting turned into an offroader and driven to Africa early next year. The clutch is pretty shitty on this one too. Apparently water likes to get in the hydraulics, which makes pedal spongey. Mine goes off to the mechanic for service tomorrow.
>>106484421>I passed first time despite never having driven the car.Did you suck off the examiner?
>>106484228If you want to leave your phone at home you'll need one with a sim card. I wouldn't trust a chink radio with internet access and the proprietary name brand ones don't let you sideload apps. The best option is the cheapest single DIN radio that just lets you use speakers over AUX and putting a cheap LineageOS tablet in front. The batteries tend to die faster in high temp cars but it's really the only thing that fits both your criteria.
>>106485567Thanks for the reply!> If you want to leave your phone at home you'll need one with a sim card. The plan is to have a Starlink terminal mounted on the car. It costs some money, but it saves the hassle of buying SIM cards at borders. So, wifi network only is fine.> I wouldn't trust a chink radio with internet access and the proprietary name brand ones don't let you sideload apps.Yeah, this is my main concern. I'm looking for something that I can install applications on (FDroid -> Aurora -> whole play store catalog [minus whatever requires google services]) and that I can halfway trust to give network access.> The best option is the cheapest single DIN radio that just lets you use speakers over AUX and putting a cheap LineageOS tablet in front. This is what I'm trying to avoid. I'll do it if necessary, but I'm going to drive on some bumpy roads that are challenging for phone and tablet mounts and in hot places that have a tendency to overheat gadgets. A permanently mounted solution with active cooling would be nice.
check out eonon, no idea how they are but seem like an option
>>106486248Thanks. Screen resolutions look a bit meh, but at least it's a brand name that I can research.I guess another option would be to buy random chineseshit, also buy a SoC that can run LineageOS and then use screen mirroring or Android Auto from that device to drive the screen.
>>106486203>m looking for something that I can install applications onSo the one I got is from Joying. They're not cheap at around $450 but they're fullsize tablets and you get a kit to fit in you dash and make install easy.joyingauto . comIt's a chink brand that I think is more trustworthy than the randos on aliexpress since they've been around a while and have decently updated android tablets. They have a unit designed for your shitbox assuming I got the year and model right.Mine came preloaded with some chink stock footage and some almost definitely pirated music that I deleted but I could uninstall some of the default apps without any problems and install what I wanted from fdroid. I don't think I could uninstall google play services but I can't remember anymore it's been a while.I don't have it on wifi ever because I don't need to so I haven't done any packet testing. You could monitor traffic with wireshark and see if it's hitting any Chinese IPs or run a pihole dns server to block traffic.
