The hard drive on the 18 year old thinkpad I've been using as an HTPC/home server broke :(
>>106485790How can you be sure?
>>106485855idk I went to watch something on it a few hours ago and realized kodi crashed, so I opened the lid and tried opening the terminal to troubleshoot but the system restarted into the bios and it wont let me boot into the Debian entry.
>>106485905The bios says "media test failed, check cables" when trying to boot
>>106485790Pop it open and replace the hard drive. It'll still be a Thinkpad with a newer-- and possibly larger-- hard drive in it. Might as well upgrade the RAM while you're in there, too.Should be pretty easy to do so, all you need is a screwdriver and the back just slides right off. Hard drive should only be a couple more screws to release. Least that's how it works on my T440p and every other Thinkpad I've used.Look up Youtube tutorials if you're stumped, that's what the site's for
>>106487390It was something I got off craigslist when I was broke. Now I'm not broke so I'll just try to build an actual computer (now with the ability to play games newer than 2005!). I'm more sad that I lost a bunch of data and can't use my TV until all the parts arrive and are assembled.
>>106487484I mean, the data might be toast but no reason to throw the baby out with the bathwater y'know? If the keyboard and screen and case are still good I'm sure you can think of SOMETHING to do with it
here, have some new data
