Anyone else intimidated by just how much tech there is out there these days? Maybe I was ignorant about it for a long time, but these days everything feels overwhelming. Whether it's hardware, software (extensions, apps, scripts, gits, sites), video games, AIs for every task imaginable... I used to just bookmark stuff, these days I feel like drawing some weird 4D map just to keep track of all the stuff I'm interested in.
>>106485930It's not the quantity, it's the quality.
AI is the only "new" thing in 15 years.
>>106485949Yeah, but in order to find the quality stuff you need to go through a lot of slop. Even so, there's a lot of genuinely good tech being made.>>106485954That's speaking in terms of broad trends, but my issue is with individual software. It feels like there's more being produced than ever.
>>106486030>there's a lot of genuinely good tech being madeName one thing.
>>106485930>I feel like drawing some weird 4D map just to keep track of all the stuff I'm interested in.pick one and drill down for a while see what you come out with
>>106486047Look at all the ways in which extensions and userscripts make the Internet useable again. Whether it's the countless ones countering YouTube's constant enshittification or 4chanXT making this place bearable. Sure, it's just one small piece of the puzzle, but even so, there are a ton of extensions and scripts out there. Just look at how many chrome-stats is tracking: https://chrome-stats.com/Sure, you can say that a lot of it is slop, and that's true, but there's a lot of good stuff too. And I'm always tempted to dumpster dive, hoping to find the next good extension or script or app.
>>106486184>And I'm always tempted to dumpster dive, hoping to find the next good extension or script or appproblem is there's so much shit out there 9/10 times you just end up wasting your evening. It's so much easier just to choose instant dopamine and that's the problem. 2000-2009 was the sweet spot
>>106486199>9/10 times you just end up wasting your eveningExactly this. I finally find something that I think I need to read, but end up just randomly clicking other stuff befere going back to the actual things I wanted to read, in the end running out of time to even do that.
