Just received 3 of these in the mail. $20 for each. How am I doing /g/uys?
>>106487203at $20 and enterprise they are probably used and abused
>>106487176Enjoy your 9, I mean 8.1TB of storage.Don't use them for anything critical, or at least put two of them in RAID1and use the third for off-site backup.
>>106487176Based. Put them in RAID 5.
>>106487276this is straight 3TB. no Timmy-bytes here fuck face.
>>106487203>>106487237yeah they're used. what's the first thing I should do with them? SMART Test? If they fail, I'll just return them and get others or my money back
>>106487176>sasHave fun connecting them
>>106487399Already did. They are recognized and work fine. What are you getting at?
Why you fag/g/ots can't be happy for me?
>>106487557im happy for you anon
please take care of your cableshard bends fucked one of mine up
>>106487559Thank you. One is running quite warm. Why is that you think?
>>106487574reapply thermal paste?
WTH is MDDHDD is all Seagate/WD/Toshiba now
>>106487569Okay will do. Thanks for the advice. Is it a good idea to format that in BTRFS or NTFS? Would windows recognize them? I use kibbutz primarily tho
>>106487603whoa fucking kibbutz when I type linuz wtf is going on?

>>106487594refurbished drive sellerspinning mystery meat
>>106487345Neat, I always thought drives were spacecucked by marketers. I bought some used enterprise drives not long ago and I'm satisfied with them. They work.
>>106487676that's good to know and reassuring, anon, I hope I have pleasant experiences with these, too.
Gparted has them showing as 2.73 Timmy-Bytes. oh well. Memes and throwaway, meaningless stuff is going to go on them, anyway. keep the OS disks clean and free of shite. might back up my OS .isos and programs that I use.

>>106487828you need to go back
>>106487828essentially they are not necessarily used, but, poorly binned HDDs.
is it worf to buy used HDDs just for "cold" storage? you put shit in there and forget about it forever unless you need it 1-2 years later
Got the little bitches to work on Windows formatted as BTRFS. Now to rape them with files. My main backup drive will be backed up on these. Game Installation files etc.
>>106487557I was thinking of getting these drives but I've heard that MDD (MaxDigitalData) just repurposes old and abused enterprise drives and wipes the SMART data before selling them to you. I personally didn't go with them since they were only gonna give me a 3 month warranty... hope those drives server you well though anon :3
>>106487176Can't be arsed buying small drives like that, no matter how cheap. My NAS only has four bays and space inside my PCs is at a premium. But if it's more than enough space for you then fine, you got bargain.
Holy FUCK! They are transferring stupid fast on my SAS HBA! 28GB transfer took a minute. I'm transferring 264GB of PS3 GAMES etc it's topping out at 180MB/sec and climbing>>106488153I'll be sure to give an honest and thorough review a month from now
>>106487765(((linux)))
>>106487557kys
>>106487176Pretty good OP. I buy used SAS drives too, but 4TB ones for around 22-25 a drive. A few died during a major power outage but the rest running fine after 2 years still.SAS is great, specialty hardware that is very useful but also very cheap.
>>106487962 what the fuck is wrong with you
>>106489519Umm, where do I start?
>>106487176Congrats anon, I just got my HDDs yesterday too. resyncing as I type. I found out the hard way my box only fits 1 3.5" so I'm going to have to get some velcro tape or something.
>>106487176throw them away, 3tb is small as fuck
>>106487399>he doesn't have a $20 LSI card off ebayngmi
>>106487176Isn't 7200 rpm too loud? Or too BRRRRRR on your table?
>>106487557>Why you fag/g/ots can't be happy for me?People come here to be miserable anon.I had to pay over 200€ for shitty 8tb drive :-(
>>106487176O.Owhere do you get them for this price? Even if they only last half of what they are supposed to its still cheaper to put them in a RAID and replace a drive every couple of years considering how expensive new noes are now. Im jelly.
>>106487361Full read/write test of all blocks, then see if that fails or produces any SMART errors or warnings
>>106490717why not do a long self-test at that point?
>>106487557loving it famalam, you be winning :)
>>106491069I iz winnin' thanks to you mah niggah
>>106489519what do you mean anon bro saar
>>106487557i threw 4 used 4tb toshibas in my NAS a couple years ago, still going strong. If you use zfs just make sure to scrub often enough.
>>106490717anon, I'm currently running "badblocks /dev/sda" on one of the disks and it squeaked and squealed like a cat being slaughtered for a good 10 minutes, then went silent, but, I can still see that the drive is fully active as shown in pic related, indicating the command and process is still running.
>>106490616Not OP but I buy mine on eBay
is this hell? seeing this?
>>106491639Fuck off jeet
>>106487557There are obvious issues if they cost 20 euros, , space is fake, open them them there might be a sdcard inside, or simply quality i shit will die in 5 years
>>106491915nah bro, these disks are spinning. no sdcards in here.
>>106491947that is one good thing
>>106491956no fake space either, if I get 5 years out of a 3TB SAS HDD that cost me $20 that's great. I don't see the problem. nice try with the FUD, tho. had me going. not really, but...it's just what you say to FUDsters like yourself
>>106491971okay bro its not my money so idc
>>106487574Hard to tell if you don't show your setup. It might not have enough breathing room, especially if it's sandwich'd between other HDDs or components.
>>106487962That looks fantastic anon. How's btrfs on Windows? Last time I tried I had issues but it was years ago.
>>106492001so far, so good. no hiccups, no complaints. I'm writing to one right now on windows and it seems to be doing just fine. these may not be refurbished in the sense of them being used and beaten up, but, poorly binned
>>106491973how long do you expect $20 to last, retard?
>>106491973>idcyet, here you are. kys
>>106487962 Why not RAID doe
>>106492235What raid setup do you recommend. One says 0 another said 5
>>106491612linux mint looks like THAT?
>>106487557errmm uhhhhI am so happy for you that you bought*looks at notes*ermmm 3 used HDDscongrats
>>106487176aren't old drives just as good for cold storage, such as picrel to clone drives then keep cold archives?
>>106493182get more and run them in Raid 5 and keep some for cold storage
