Should I make this my NICGIGA? Need something for IP cameras in the field that will report back to the master. Not that it matters, but are all NICGIGAs black? Seriously though, is this reliable or will this cause me problems down the road in refusing to work.

Have you had positive responses with NICGIGAs that you've encountered?

I've no personal experience but looking at reviews they appear to have some regular problems; loud fans, overheating, and dropping down to lower speeds after running for awhile.

They're likely fine for a home user, I wouldn't buy them for a deployment in a real-world work environment.

“Loud”, never beating the stereotype.

Why not buy used gear? Name brand 10/100 switches are dirt cheap nowadays and they are overkill for ip cameras.

Something to consider, but it's also often sold "as-is" and people never like to disclose issues with some ports failing to deliver power, etc. If there's a reliable refurbished seller, I'd be more inclined.

>a deployment in a real-world work
Add 'Do not deploy in work environment' to that
