you can patch it because it's open source. that is what software freedom is

There are two possibilities, here:
>1. You really know what you're doing. And you really, really want to run as root
In this case, you will find a way to get it done. A program like this can't REALLY stop you from running as root....
>2. You're a stupid normie who doesn't know what you're doing, in which case, the warning is valid, and you shouldn't be trying to run whatever bullshit you're trying to run as root

Absolute wintoddler mentality
Also, MPV has no problems running under root with drm back-end

>You really know what you're doing. And you really, really want to run as root
why shouldn't i have root privileges on the computer i physically own that is in the security of my own home?

Number 2 covers your case.
>>
>>106490031
Nobody took root rights from you, you successfully ran an application under root and it executed according to its logic. Next you'll cry that you can't write to ro filesystem with root?

You have. This is a warning issued by VLC, not your OS you fucking midwit. Just recompile it without this restriction or don't use root for activities that don't require it, as is generally best practice (for your own sake).
Protip: you can run applications with regular user rights, despite you, the human in front of a computer, having sudo rights on that machine.

to be honest i stopped using dolphin because of this.

That's not a Linux issue that's a VLC issue.

Then again, you probably already knew that when you made this thread, Kike.
