in the case of Android, 3rd party apps don't compete on equal footing with google slop. For example, google maps gets the permission to access device's location while running in the background, whereas 3rd party apps cannot even request such permission. Turning off battery optimization for grayjay may let it run better in the background. But I can only guess, and I never used grayjay anyway.

These applications are proprietary, impossible to compile to get same binaries, license is proprietary, and only open source is allowed in official default repository of F-Droid and even that doesn't accept the Grayjay or Brave BECAUSE THEY ARE PROPRIETARY.
