I want the truth about "refurbished" items
>>106501364they were previously used
>>106501364They were rode hard and put away wet, but somebody put patches on the facade and then charge 90% of new with no, low, or limited warranty. Rarely ever worth it. It's a scalpers dream currently though. Stop buying it unless it's deeply discounted by at least 30% of lowest recorded price history of new.
They "fixed" it but there are probably more subtle problems that weren't immediately noticable and therefore weren't fixed.
>>106501364>the truth about "refurbished" itemsThey are a scam.Even the word "refurbished" itself is just marketing bullshit made up to sell second hand items a lot more expensive than they should.
>>106501364Isn't that obvious?>>106502049The idea is that the company is doing the refurbishment, so it should be higher quality/reliability. Not saying that is always the case.
>>106501364Depends who you're buying it from. If it's a company that values its reputation and brand image then a refurbished item will be identical to a new one, or if there are flaws it will be graded and disclosed before you buy it. If the company does not value its reputation then it's a crapshoot and the product will probably have some issues, otherwise they would have sold it as new.
>>106501364you'll know by the warranty they offer on the item. if its less than 6 months then you cant trust 'em
>>106501364They're completely covered in cum. The amount of porn and masturbating happening is beyond comprehension so a refurbished device will be contaminated more than you can possibly imagine. So remember, you are smearing your hands in a man's seed.
i got a refurbished xiaomi for a cheap price on ebay and it was basically just new. in original packaging and with the peeling plastic thing on the screen. been using it for a year and the battery isn't degraded and there are no other issues.maybe i just got lucky?

>>106501364Good stuff most of the time. Some subtle issues may fall through the cracks and become problems for you later. I don't know how comparable this is to the normal rate of unlucky defect.Ultimately, you'll probably be just fine buying refurbished like most folks, but buy from reputable companies and businesses, some are reported to be scummy with stuff they refurbish, like BH Photo Video. If the warranty offered is less than 6 months, forget it.>>106502793>>>/x/>>>/h/>>>/e/>>>/d/>>>/b/>>>/s/
>>106502793thats hot. wtf i love refurbished goods now
>>106502179>If it's a company that values its reputation and brand image then a refurbished item will be identical to a new oneIt can actually be better since it's now been through two rounds of QC.>>106502614>you'll know by the warranty they offer on the item. if its less than 6 months then you cant trust 'emHonestly. I probably wouldn't buy anything that isn't refurbed by (or under direct contract from) the original manufacturer. And those usually have a one year warranty in my experience.
second hand products BUT someone has somewhat cleaned the exterior
>>106501544Every retard in /tpg/ buys refurbished and gets raped on price. Defeats the whole purpose of cheap laptops.
>>106501364was likely dirty after previous owner as got ota firmware update
>>106507842Idk, the prices of refurbished thinkpads (at least with the T480 8th gen processors) are not that far from each other. Refurbs usually go for around 180 - 220 euro here in the EU and the used non-refurbed ones I saw on ebay were going for 150 - 200 euro. Not that big of a difference, really.
>>106501364Depending on the product and company refurbishing it, you risk getting actual shit for premium price.Speaking of that - yeah, if you want the newest, coolest, freshly releases item, you'll have a hard time finding it refurbished. But then, with modern hardware being objectively garbage, you also risk buying new, never used electronics so lol
>>106501364I've purchased over a dozen refurb items from Dell and the quality is pretty consistently good. I've only returned 1 laptop that had a blemish on the screen, and 1 monitor which had an LCD that would fizzle out after about ~30 seconds. The quality control definitely isn't bulletproof as that monitor shouldn't have passed. otherwise, some laptops were a little dirty and had to be cleaned, while others looked like they were brand fucking new.getting the monitor returned was the biggest fucking ordeal I've ever had to deal with in my life, and just goes to show the level of incompetence that can happen in a corporation. I'm too lazy to type it out unless anyone is interested.tl;dr can get really good deals for usually half or more the cost of retail, but it is a gamble.
