The "imaging" parts of multimodal models is just a different model it calls on, which then transcribes into text what it sees. So it's not Gemini 2.5 pro seeing the image, but calling up on a image analysis function which then analyzes the image and reports back in text form to gemini. None of this tests the actual intelligence of the model, just how capable the image processing submodel is.

24-hour clocks require taller clock towers for the counterweight, also requires higher precision for the gearing ratio

easier and cheaper to just let the system roll over at 12h instead of 24h, especially since measuring time in two blocks of 12h was a carryover from ancient horology
>>
>>106508500
those all seem like old constraints which aren't an issue today. the whole "AM or PM?" confusion is surely wasting a lot of human time so humanity would benefit from doing away with it. asking "AM or PM?" must be one of the shitties time wastes out of all you're better off blanking out than wasting energy powering your neurons to utter those words
>>
When I was a kid (maybe I had a flip phone? but wasn't on me immediately) we had this long distance trip for the school band. It was winter so it was pretty dark both in morning and evening, so when I woke up I freaked the fuck out thinking I might've missed the bus by many hours. I don't remember the times.
>>
>>106508333
:O
>>
>>106508531
yea nowadays it's irrelevant, 99.9% of the clocks being bought today are just quartz oscillator based anyway even if they're "analog"

it's just one of those things that because it used to make sense, we keep doing it. like imperial measurements in the US, or driving on the left in the UK so you could more easily draw your sword on someone who rolled up on you (since most people are right handed)

fuck AM/PM, and fuck time zones, and fuck daylight savings, be the change you want to see in the world and switch all the clocks in your house to ISO-8601
>>

>>106508616

>>
It's crazy to me that companies are using acres of datacenter space so that dipshits can ask instances of the same models to write their essays for them. Why haven't we cracked realtime learning? Why are they still using tokens? A graphics card is somehow still king while every "npu" so far is a joke? It's like they're not even trying.

>>
>>106508664
my wording was wrong, you can track any time but we're back to the same problem, different times for different places, which is literally irrelevant on the surface of the planet. we're all in sync here since we're all at same gravitational depth, on the surface of the planet.

can't we just use gravity to calibrate that? like add a gravity sensor to the clock and use that to adjust and eliminate uncertainties?
say someone in space looks at the clock it will look like it's ticking a bit fast, but someone using the same clock on earth will see it ticking at insane speeds or something.

its not about the clock

its the fact that AI DOES NOT REASON. It cannot solve problems based on what it already "knows". It doesn't actually "know" anything.

AI is flawed from the foundation.
>>
>>106508717
that's what GPS satellites do but you're back to the initial problem, keeping different times for different places. my point was that is actually required for everywhere BUT the surface of the planet. since all our clocks tick at the same rate here.

Italy gets a bad reputation because of all the retarded gabagool diaspora from the south (if you're American, imagine if all everyone saw of your country were barely-literate rednecks from alabama), which is essentially a different country from the north (everything in-between is kind of a gradual transition between the two), but the northerners aren't very different from the more "respected" Europeans.
These differences are mostly cultural I think, but there's definitely a genetic component as well.
This cultural/genetic diversity means that depending on where the data comes from, you can get pretty different results.

Ok but for 99.9999% of jobs AI will do it can use a digital timing source
For recognising time on images it will be much more efficient on digital clocks as it will recognise numbers like 23:59 easily.
What’s the takeaway from this? The niche case of identifying the time on a clock from an image is currently hard?
If anything it’s becoming a reach to find any analysis that AI is not incredibly good at.

I lost the thread already but OP said something about doing a clock reader as a side project then some random guy from a Korean factory asked for support on how to run the thing; for the purpose of reading analogue gauges instead of clocks. zoomers dont know typically because they were never exposed to them, of course you arent going to understand something you have never seen before.
