what are your favorite dumb devices that have encouraged you to be more focused and productive? some of mine:
>flip phone
>remarkable tablet
>surfans f20 mp3 player

Nothing. It's called having an ounce of self-discipline.

unironically a pocket notebook has been the best for me so far. they get torn to shit in pockets so the monthly subscription is worth it to me.
>not another device to charge
>don't have to worry about having an internet connection or syncing
>no app updates
>can actually draw things freehand without being a pain in the ass
>dont need to carry a pen because pens can be found everywhere
>physically writing something makes it feel more impactful (for me, anyways)
>get to practice handwriting
>crossing things off feels insanely rewarding
>>
>>106517597
the only thing that keeps me off physical notebooks is i want to easily access a dynamic and easily changeable ToDo list.
>>
>>106517605
yeah it's not great for anything past a certain scope. I still use OneNote for larger projects, especially if collaboration might be a factor.

Just turn off all notifications. I use an iPhone and Macbook. Its not the device, its your lack of boundaries. If something is really important people can call me otherwise I'll get to it when I get to it. Reclaim your time.
>>
>>106517654
been down that road before. just re-enabled the notifications, re-enabled the browser, disabled Screen Time limits, yadayadayada.

I love my remarkable 2 but I'm wondering if the new one that is smaller might be better for me, the bulkiness of the 2 makes me less likely to carry it with me and more likely to leave it at my desk
>>
>>106517675
yo i owned a RM2 and bought the new Move.
I've used the Move everyday since I've bought it, throughout the day, taken it with me on trips and everything.
the RM2 stays at home for if I want a bigger canvas. I don't think I would get rid of it but the Move has almost completely replaced it.
I did disable the rotation between portrait and landscape because that shit got really annoying. other than that I've been thinking about what I want to do with the RM2 now. I have the type cover with it so it feels like sunk cost (but I used it a lot the past year)

This is the dumbest shit ever

It doesn't have my banking apps, or essential services that I use like Google Drive
>well.... it's not supposed to have them by design

But I need them both for leisure and WORK
>well... you will still have your regular phone. The idea is this separate device will only handle the basics

So I would then have two phones?
Isn't that counter productive? Getting two phones is literally the opposite of minimalism. This shit is conceptually flawed and the practical application and purpose are at war against each other.
Fuck you.
>>
>>106517778
> Isn't that counter productive? Getting two phones is literally the opposite of minimalism.
When you have two devices that are single purpose, you would use them less often than one device that is dual purpose.
As a result, they require less mental attention and you are free to think for yourself on which device to use for which task.
Minimalism of the mind, not in quantity of devices.

I have a 13 mini with every Apple app I don't use removed and a few essential third party apps (banking, adblock, RSS reader, Zoom, smart lights). I don't place any restrictions on screen time or notifications. Though I guess I turned off sound for email notifications since I get a lot of them and almost none are time critical. If you can't control yourself like >>106517663 then you'll eventually cave and go back to your smartphone anyway. So it's better to make some small changes that you can live with. It's also cheaper than buying some bespoke "life simplification device" since it works with any smartphone.
>>
>>106517778
Factual Trvth Nuke of Justice. Fuck these devices, they are ultimately retarded. If you need a second phone device ANYWAY just get a custom rom phone and install no apps. This is all retarded af

Why did you ever pretend such a thing? Being ashamed to tell your opinion is very childish behavior. Also there are some very good small pen, the kind that are half sized but become full size when you put the cap on the bottom.

I think I would rather use a singe android phone, but with two user profiles. One for work and one for private life. This is one of the big advantages of android compared to iPhones, that you can create separate user profiles.

>>106517654
iPhones and Macbooks are locked down shitty tech so of course it's easy to just not use them.

I learned to appreaciate PMPs recently. Phones suck for music listening. Not even talking about sound quality or anything, just grabbing your phone while you are trying to be productive is poison.
Also saves battery and nice to just slap a 512GB card in there and sort my music on it directly.

Strictly superior with 0 downsides.

I have ordered LP3 , but now I see Mudita Kompakt might be a better choice, it allows to sideload apps you need, because it has e-ink, it's not as tempting as regular phone, you can take pictures with it, but you will see them in colour on a computer or after printing.

Unfortunately it cannot receive or send images anymore, so when mom wants medicines or a fancy it's a problem

The pen has 4 colours: green for groceries, red for urgent , blue for ideas and dates, and black for crossing off things
>>
>>106521226
>green for groceries, red for urgent , blue for ideas and dates, and black for crossing off things
why not just write "groceries" instead of carrying a fat autism pen
better yet, why not use an iphone 12 mini or something similar and just use the Notes app?
>>
>>106522152

Color coding makes everything clear.

When I did notes on smartphone I immediately had to check email, sites, YouTube feed etc.

>I did, then I got bored and reinstalled them again , addict MUST remove temptation, not carry it around , it's like a alcoholic with a closed bottle of scotch.

So the root of the problem is not addiction, but boredom. Addictive behaviour in this case is just the effect of boredom.

Smartphones are tools to fight boredom. You remove the smartphone from your life, but the boredom persists. So how do you cure your boredom?
>>
>>106522528
Smartphones are tools to exploit you, not fight boredom

I just want a device that can completely replace my wallet and my keys, without having any other functionality. It should be the size of a credit card and be able to use nfc to pay for things and unlock doors. Why hasn't anybody invented something like this yet?

Smartphones itself are relatively neutral. They become tools of exploitation only, when the users deliberatly configure their own device this way. No matter if android or iphone: You don't need a Google account/apple ID. Not having a account will restrict your device significantly, but still allow basic functions. Using a modern smartphone without account is the best method to practice digital minimalism, because it combines the advantages of modern smartphones and old school dumbphones: Phone, messaging, camera, mp3 player, web browser.

This.

Recently I realized that if being productive is the focus, it's best to centralize and just focus on having discipline. Having services that most minimal fans would consider bloat is often essential for work, or at least for making things easier and more efficient, I can think less about working and how I work, and instead use that time to actually work more. I've gotten to the point of ditching my laptop in favor of a tablet and just keeping it and my smartphone in sync, it's easier for me that way, and its more productive.
