Alpine Linux is a meme. Since is uses musl, have fun not having any binary software distributed for Linux work.
>>
>>106520325
If your software doesn't build cleanly with musl it's worthless spaghetti garbage anyway.

linux never breaks abi retard. even for proprietary slop, which i bet is what you're referring to, you can still run stuff with the non-system-libc easily. but you're probably a retard, and a jeet one at that. and this is "yet another jeet filtered" thread which comprises most of /g/ these days.
there are meme-ish aspects to alpine. this is not one of them.

Is Gentoo the only non-meme musl distro?

That's not how that works. You do know that a lot of binary software for Linux is using statically compiled Musl libc, right?
It's only glibc software that cannot be properly compiled statically that won't work and that's fine because you can just run that in a Debian chroot or container or whatever or use a Flatpak for desktop software.

>The X11 session for KDE Plasma has been removed. If you had plasma-workspace-x11 installed make sure to remove it from /etc/apk/world
>>
>>106521225
Alpine is working on Wayback to provide an Xorg Server on top of Wayland. With that in mind, it doesn't make sense for them to package any X11 environments that also support Wayland because running Plasma's X11 environment on top of Wayland when it already has native Wayland support would be the most brain-dead thing ever.

Why would anyone even do that? Obviously, someone is worried about the quality of their libc implementation but at that point just give up. If your libc isn't perfect then you're already cooked.
>>
>>106521823
you lost
>>
>>106521835
it has nothing to do with libc and more just general sensibility and provenance of your data.
you can't just call strlen on some random string (that may be null). it is simply retarded. (arguable anyone should use it at all, but that's another complaint.
>>
>>106521840
i won, linux lost
>>
>>106521853
Isn't that why people use strnlen instead? If you don't know the length of your string then you are kind of fucked.
>>
>>106521896
Yep, the man page for strlen even says as much:
NOTES
In cases where the input buffer may not contain a terminating null byte, strnlen(3) should be used instead.

No idea where the hate comes from. It's a comfy distro for minimalists. None of the Debian and Fedora derivatives enabled me to get boot time down to 8 seconds on a 7 year old laptop.

glibc binaries run fine with gcompat or, if you must, Flatpak. That is if your binary blob isn't statically linked anyway.

Also, kinda nice to use an init system that a human can understand in a day, rather than choking on the systemD.

sisters, our response?

I have no idea what musl is. As a developer or architect it is my job to say that I used something that is industry standard to not be potentially liable. THAT is the only reason why Alpine is used for production containers. I could not care less if it is slower 2, 5 or 7 times than some other option. Also, the time spent inside a container is typically nothing compared to the network time or first-load, which to improve requires more thinking than just choosing betweean A and B.
