Koss Porta Pro is all you need.

Anything under 1000kb/s is not music
>>

I've been using 192 because I'd rather overshoot it than fall short, but I'll consider adjusting my settings for future encodes

I listen to physical CD's from +40 years ago. The audio quality is still technically superior to this Opus format. I'm not going to rip all my stuff to opus to listen to that on my computer and convert my entire library of FLACs to that. Storage is cheap nowadays. It's the only reason I see for bothering with this sort of encoding.

anyway since this thread came up, should I convert the flacs and mp3s in my music collection to aac or is opus better?
I want to be efficient storage wise since my collection is huge and I don't want to use external drives or some cloud thing.
>>
>>106520874
OPUS 192 for FLAC
Don't touch MP3, there's no point in compressing what's already compressed.
>>
>>106520882
is 192 some magic number people agree on? I was thinking like 320 since I've seen that a lot, don't really know much about this stuff.
>>
>>106520874
opus superior if all the devices you're going to use support it. Don't lossy to lossy transcode. I personally never delete my flacs and just use opus for my phone
>>
>>106520888
People agree upon 160kbps for OPUS to be even better than 320 for MP3. 192 is just safer and still provides better resourcefulness than MP3 320.
>>
>>106520888
just memory from it being a default CBR from mp3, I don't think opus cares if you do 176 or 200 or any other target bitrate

all the best 1080p SDR encodes are still H.264 and E-AC-3, but they only care about maxing out quality and DGAF about filesize

>beginner
he's a chronic nigger. the answers to his questions are very very accessible with a couple of searches on the web. if i remember correctly xiph/opus even gives official guidance on bitrates. but nooo better be a nigger ask random miscarriages on 4chan the same trivial, regurgitated questions for years. dissonant heresay > thinking for yourself, according to low IQ normgroids and you. that's why you freaks can't even encode a regular fucking vp9 webm yet.
>>
>>106520555
Kek no 160 is Vorbis-tier for Opus 128 is enough
>>
96k is enough, but some people still prefer encode to 128k, maybe from the mp3 legacy. You should do a blind test to be sure, but from my experience you can even go lower like 6xk to 7xk without much downside on most things.
>>
>>106521043
You sound extremely hurt by humans.

How do you know it's the same guy as past times? It's an anonymous board. I can't help him because I'm not poor and can afford enough storage to have everything on maximum FLAC quality so no need for encodes, but I would if I could.
>>
>>106521209
for music:
128k is guaranteed transparency. 96k is effectively transparent. pick one or the other depending on how important saving space is. this is officially documented, tested, well known
>>
>>106520851
>Opus Vorbis
What the fuck?
>>
I need less. 96k is good enough for lossy music.
>>
>>106521241
>128k is guaranteed transparency >96k is effectively transparent
What does it mean? The default quality setting profile with FFmpeg is 96k.
libvorbis – usable range ≥ 96Kbps. Recommended range -aq 4 (≥ 128Kbps)

>this is officially documented, tested, well known
This is not, I've read one article about it, and there is nothing really factual about anything but your ears.

wrong encoder, retard, but the default for libopus is 96k nevertheless

good luck.

You said he's chronic, that means multiple times. Basically you're just bitter and making shit up. You should either touch grass or be less mad with the world in general. Have a friend or two, leave all that pain and hatred behind. Surely you can't be hurt that bad.
