where is it?

Still on Alpha 7 which was released back in April. I'm quite worried about Pop OS now. The stable release is still 22.04 with GNOME 42 from 2022 and they apparently don't plan to have a new distro release (or upgrade GNOME in 22.04) until COSMIC is stable, but it's been three years already and it's not even in beta. They're still providing maintenance updates for 22.04, but GNOME's file picker has had icon grid view since GNOME 44 released in March 2023 and Pop OS would have probably also had it by now if they weren't putting almost everything on freeze for COSMIC.

I tried using the Cosmic Text library and it's a fucking joke. If the whole DE is at that level of incompetence, then it's dead on arrival

Beta comes out sept 25th
>>
>>106524230
(year unspecified)
>>
The beta was announced last week by Carl for September 25th. Brodie made a video on it the moment Carl commented publicly that the release date was to be announced the week prior.
Two months ago, Carl went to the Linux Foundation's Open Source Summit to give a live presentation on stage of COSMIC while explaining the technologies it uses.
Meanwhile, Jeremy was at RustConf 2025 last week to give a presentation on Redox OS. At the end, he revealed that the whole presentation was being done in cosmic-reader running in Redox OS, so he demoed COSMIC apps running on Redox.
So where were you the last couple months? They have been actively busy working on the beta.

vaporwave
they have been working on it since 2020, a full time paid team. Meanwhile the freetards are miles ahead.
COSMIC is full of bugs and memory leaks it's not even funny.
>however there is a bug, the longer i leave my system on, the more the unnecesary ram cosmic takes up, even taking up 10GB of ram, even though in the beginning, it only took up around 3GB of ram
its full of bugs like these and underneath there's the shiteating mmstick with his usual
>are you sure? you are making this up. Rust doesn't have issues
>oopsies turns out we wrote shitty buggy code again

>but it's hard you know
full time. paid team. using a toolkit they didn't write. no excuses.
>>
>>106525381
this. It's also ugly as shit and the theming is just recoloring and border radius. Mind you they hired full time UX and UI designers that were tasked with "copy libadwaita but don't make it obvious" and failed.
>>
>>106525381
> hey have been working on it since 2020
The first commit for the compositor was published at the beginning of 2022. The GUI toolkit (libcosmic) did not get its first line of code until the end of 2022. After 22.04 released, they deliberated on multiple toolkits for several months. So this 2020 number is exaggerated.

> ts full of bugs like these and underneath there's the shiteating mmstick with his usual
Found the sore asshole over here projecting his love for eating shit. You sound mighty mad. mmstick has a lot of free real estate in your mind.

hello mmstick!!!
>The first commit for the compositor was published at the beginning of 2022
even your first sentence is a lie, the first commit was on late 2021 https://github.com/pop-os/cosmic-comp/commit/b7da65117e1cb42dd609a4417389dd996119bd1f but that's only the compositor. libcosmic's initial commit was a bit earlier in 2021. However cosmic started much earlier it just wasn't public, you can find talks on them talking about it in 2020.
>The GUI toolkit (libcosmic) did not get its first line of code until the end of 2022
the toolkit is iced, just because they forked and renamed it only to add 3 widgets and global linux state management it doesn't make it a "new toolkit". It's a soft fork. The merge with upstream often.
>Found the sore asshole over here projecting
mmstick, you forgot to reply on reddit!!! it's part of your duties as a system76 engineer to name search every 2 minutes! https://www.reddit.com/user/mmstick/
>>
>>106525535
So I'm off by a few months. Such a a scandal! You proved my point in the end. Now you can find a better hobby instead of obsessing over mmstick. He's not going to date you.
>>
>>106525725
NTA but mmstick is an ass, you can't say shit about cosmic without him appearing on any social media platform just to tell you that it's you who has the problem and are just holding it wrong
>>
>>106523483
*Krashes*
>>
>>106525762
I haven't seen him on the youtube comment sections of any COSMIC-related video for months now. I think he has given up.
>>
Beta release is September 25th, per the CEO.

https://fosstodon.org/@carlrichell/115153818548798678
>>
>>106525787
So at the end of October at the earliest. Got it.
>>
>>106525809
If you look at their taskboard, they still have 25 unfinished beta tickets. I guess they're just gonna release the beta anyway even if many of those don't make it to release candidate.

https://github.com/orgs/pop-os/projects/23/views/1
>>
>>106525841
I mean, if they are willing to ignore the remaining issues, I guess you're right.
If they are not, though, I wouldn't trust their estimate.
>>
>>106521976
such is the nature of rust
>>
>>106525762
You'd rather developers not socialize with their community? Seems the ass is not mmstick, but people like you who want to talk shit on other's work. Assholes think everyone who confronts them is an ass.
>>
>>106525952
An estimate would be a month without a day. Sounds like it's locked in no matter what.
>>
>>106525771
He commented on Brodie's recent COSMIC video to say "Two more weeks"
