Is the Ruby programming language good for you in 2025?I don't mean employment and money.

Ruby is kind of like a Prius. It's fine but you'll end up associated with other people who use it.

Ruby has nothing going agaisnt python but perl is perl

>>106523140Ruby's competing with Python for slowest possible programming language. It's ecosystem is worse, doing lots of things to try to speed things up that not only don't work, but actively hurt other things they're doing to speed up. It's like asking the Three Stooges to make a programming language and library. There are better languages. There are many many better languages.
>>106523140Ruby is a victim of Rails. It was a cool and interesting language imo but unfortunately webshitters made it all about Ruby+Rails. In classical webshit fashion they were unable to tell the difference and advertised them as a pair to anyone else. This made Ruby's populary and growth unnatural and cancerous, and it basically died once webshitters started leaving for the next shiny thing, as they do every 3 years or so.Since webshitters made it all about rails that was basically all the community around ruby talked about, so interesting proper Ruby libs and projects ended up abandoned as well. What's left nowadays is a language that is even slower than python, with a way worse and less diversified ecosystem. That being said: if it interests you why not just check it out for a while? It has some interesting features.
