Idk what this is about, but I am glad to see a Dev giving proper Linux support to their program instead of just telling people to "use wine" desu

"use wine" is a perfectly valid form of Linux support

I was wondering what Unreal Engine 5 has to do with World of Warcraft and a private server so I checked it out. The game itself is reimplemented in unreal engine 5 by fans?

win32 is the most stable desktop api on linux.

basically private servers just need to replicate the backend server logic because thats a blackbox.
but all the assets, the world gen and everything.
that's all on the users machine, so they can connect to your fake server running custom netcode with the games assets
its pretty cool, i set up a wow private server before but its kinda boring with just 3 of your friends. these big ones are free, private, and have a lot of losers to play with

Take the FreeDOS pill. You can hardly call DOS an operating system.

>The game itself is reimplemented in Unreal Engine 5 by fans?
Kind of.
It's a small team with documented evidence of minor grooming on Discord.
They also beg for donations and have doxxed players who spoke ill of the server, but that's a minor thing compared to the minor thing.
They make regular ad threads on /v/ but are fairly unwanted there.

at this point in my life i dont care. every major corporation is a criminal enterprize at this point. they dont respect our rights, why should we simp for theirs?

>>106527620
russians realized that since the west was going to exclude them because putin didnt let the democrat launder money in ukraine, they should just go full balls to the wall retarded and start pirating things FOR REAL. So you have real russian tech companies running all kinds of mmorpg private servers, charging players money like they were licnesed publishers, and then they take that money and roll into new projects like relaunching old games in new engines... something the 'real' companies should have done years ago but didnt because western corpos dont actually careabout their 'communities'.

20 years ago the russian government would work with western governments to shut these companies down, but now they dont since western companies block russians from legitimate services and pretend 'we are at war' when we literally arent due to that ukraine bullshit.

So wow but without blizzard's client?
When and How can I play it? Can I play on linux already?

At some point, didn't turtle wow have malware in their client due to a hack?
>>

You didn't actually answer his question at all, you just used it to go on about some unrelated alleged rumor, your post is useless
>>
>>106527230
It doesn't look too different

Turtle Wow is only halfway where I'd even consider playing WoW again, they're making new instances I suppose but I don't want a repeat of WoW with a few additional bits of content, i want an entirely new world using the assets of WoW.

>gets assraped in court
>loses everything
oh no

maybe they should've just used some of that "donation" money to hire artists to make new game assets? also porting existing game assets into UE5 is literally like 5 minutes of work, here's EverQuest in UE5
>>
>>106527620
I bet that original WoW client runs inside UE5 container and they just render external assets via UE5. Exactly like Bethesda's Oblivion Demaster did.
This is why they can shit out these remasters relatively painlessly.
>>
>>106529329
I heard whoever owns EQ now is also suing some successful private server for basically being more successful than the actual game kek. If these people are going to go through the effort of building a new client they really should just AI generate replacement assets and be a legally distinct "spiritual successor" that they can properly monetize.
>>
>>106529329
Low polygon graphics and high frame rates is uncanny. I always make sure to cap FPS at 30 in these games.

>>106529696
If you open the 1999 EQ client, it literally runs at your monitor refresh rate. If you use dgVoodoo or something you can also force it to whatever resolution you want. So you can literally be running around the tutorial zone right now at 4k 300hz using a client developed in the late 90s on DX8.

Nocoder self-report. Start a modern application with WINEDEBUG not set to "-all" and see your stable ABI in action.

That's too good to be truth

You think I would ever use Linux or program for it after what I said?
Windows is the only platform that actually respects you as a programmer. You write your program and it keeps working for 20 years because there's someone at Microsoft whose job is to make sure things stay that way.
>>
>>106530283
You never used Linux, yet you claim to know how its APIs work.
I don't know how you can form an opinion based on your limited perspective.
Are you from India by any chance?
>>
>>106530329
I have a lot of experience with Linux but at some point I realized this and just stopped bothering with it as a platform.

Stop lying to yourself. We all know Linux has a terrible ABI stability story. Btw I'm not talking about the kernel itself, they've done a great job at keeping things compatible, but about every other piece of shit written in userspace (glibc etc)
