Anyone here using a Robot Vacuum? I'm thinking of getting an X40 Ultra and flashing it with Valetudo. I can get it for $1,700 AUD now (~$1,100 USD) but I'm thinking it might get cheaper on Black Friday.
>>106529629I just get the woman to do that.
>>106529643It's fascinating how vacuum devices replaced all the woman features:Vacuum cleanerVacuum packed mealsVacuum fleshlight
>>106529629I tried it and I hate it. They are loud, slow and does a terrible job at cleaning. Just get a vacuum mop and a maid outfit. I use a tineco s9
>>106529629I do. An old roomba 600-somehing series. It does a very respectable job. Yeah, I could do a better job myself but I get 90% the results for no effort whatsoever, so to me that's worth it. For me it's been worth every penny for the last 5 or 6 years.
I love them. I don't have a recommendation other than that you should get one. I got a used older model. That discharge station is nice but not THAT necessary. If you let the bot run very regularly, it will pick up very little and you only need to empty it like once per week. One thing I would recommend is going for one that has some feature to reach into corners.
>>106529659When I was a kid I used to use the vacuum to fap. Just stuck my dick in and turned it on. If I got the angle right it would start vibrating my dick, good times>>106529663>LoudYou're not supposed to run them when you're home>SlowAgain, doesn't matter because it has all day to do it while you're a work or out of the house>Terrible jobFrom what I've seen they're no where near as good as manually cleaning, but I only need it to be 70% as good. Then I can do a proper clean once a month. Plus, it can do two passes a day
>>106529629Wait for the new models to come out as there is one that has all this shit plus the arm that picks up socks and shit off the floor.
>>106529663How fast do you want it to go? Also if you make it go faster it'll be even worse at cleaning. These aren't ment to be deep cleaning they are for maintenance. I have two vacuums for up and down stairs. They keep the dust managed and keep everything cleaner longer without having to mop. If you want to mop get a steam mop its easy. I haven't used the mop feature on any robot as I don't think it really does much seeing how I mop regularly anyway.
>>106529776they are just as good at cleaning sucking up pet hair, random hairs, dust, dirt, and so forth. You still gotta mop every soften but I imagine with mop attachment it'll be fine. At least if its a low traffic area.
I got a cheaper dreame (L10s) and it's handy. Some pointers>get a more expensive model with extensible mop to reach the corners>set it to max everything, except if you have a huge mansion. Max suction, deep mopping, max dampness, mop wash every 10sqm>do not buy the official detergent, you can refill it with cheaper stuff>buy parts from aliexpress in advance >keep it clean on the inside
>>106529896I was looking at that model because it's half off at the moment, but people said it doesn't work well on thick carpet because it has lower suction power. I'm very much buy once, cry once. Would rather spend more now
I've got one of these rebranded 3irobotix CRL-200S ones and am very happy with it. I run it once a day which greatly reduces dust buildup. I clean out the dust compartment once a week. And don't use the mop. Being able to run Valetudo on it was important to me because I don't want to be reliant on a proprietary app and cloud provider. They may choose at any time to include ads, discontinue their service, or put features behind a paywall. With Valetudo I just block the robot's internet access and everything still works and will work the same way forever (until the robot breaks down).
>>106530340There's not a huge amount of discussion on Valetudo because it's so niche. How's the process and result? Does it feel janky or lacking? How hard is it to reverse? I definitely want to run it but I'm worried about permanently ruining or degrading an expensive appliance. Also the main dev fucking hates Reddit so that's always a positive in my books
>>106529629Yeah dude it has this super neat feature where it scans your entire house and sells the data it collects, so convenient!
>>106529663>loud, slow and does a terrible jobso a perfect replacement as per >>106529659 's thesis
>>106529629Too expensive. Why isnt there an open source version? Its mainly the software for detection/pathfinding thats really the cost driver. Brush, battery, suction power, shouldnt cost that much.
>>106529629I have some old xiaomeme/roborock one.I really should upgrade sometime soon because it's starting to show its age but it still does the job so I can't justify it yet.Check vacuum wars for comparisons
>>106529629They're fukken great. I had roborock 6s I think and it did great job already. Id be still using it if battery hasnt died. Which considering 5 years long abuse by my cleanliness mad wife - thats good in my book. Now I got another roborock, just fancy one with docking station n shit. Qrevo curve I think. Its ugly as sin but does everything except sucking my dick. You spilled some shit on the floor? Literally just shout across the flat and it will come running and spot clean your mess.Whatever you'll get just buy some spare parts in advance as the models are getting retired quickly and only cheap knockoffs are available. Which is fine for plastic dingies but at least aim to get genuine battery.Having whole appartment layout, mic and camera fed directly to CCP is a minus I guess.
>>106530807>How's the process and result? The process is different depending on the robot. A lot of them require a breakout PCB. Which is supposedly easy to make. But I opted for a robot that's still insecure enough that I could connect to it via an exposed USB connector. Though it to took a bit of trial and error since connection was only possible after booting the robot as a startup script would disable the connector. But I got the access evnetually. After that it was rather easy.>Does it feel janky or lacking?I've never used the vendor app, so I can't say if it's lacking in comparison. I mean, the vendor supported multiple floors and Valetudo doesn't. But I'm living in a flat with only one floor. And for multiple floors you'd have to carry the robot up- and down the stairs anyway, which is impractical. But it's working just fine.Keep in mind Valetudo is only a cloud replacement. The firmware is still mostly the same. So the mapping, pathfinding, and everything will still be original. >How hard is it to reverse? No idea. If you make a backup of the file system before any changes it should work? But if you don't it might not be possible since you will flash a slightly modified firmware. >I definitely want to run it but I'm worried about permanently ruining or degrading an expensive appliance.Yeah, I get that you might be apprehensive. I didn't get a high-end one. It cost around 200 €. But that's still a lot of money thrown out the window if you brick the robot. You should find resources somewhere which features (if avalable) Valetudo supports. Again, obstace avoidance and such should not be affected as it's part of the unchanged firmware.>Also the main dev fucking hates Reddit so that's always a positive in my booksThe main dev seems... difficult. I'll just not engage in their community. The latest release notes just reinforce my beliefs. (In it they even reacted to a singular random 4chan post where someone caimed Valetudo was a backdoor, kek.)

>>106531047You can just change the battery. It's piss easy. I changed the battery on my old one and put it on another floor. Now I have 2
>>106531047I got one of those too. Mopping is shit. I prefer to use manual mopping for my wood floors. Maybe for the vinyl stuff it would be better. The dock is nice. It's a lot quieter than my old s4 though so I moved the s4 to the bottom floor.
>>106529629I have one. It doesn't reduce the frequency I manually clean my house at, but it keeps it cleaner between the cleanings. Someday, I'd like to get one of those really advanced ones like in the OP image.
>>106529776>vacuum to fapMy uncle used to work at a halfway house for youthful offenders. Said they had to deal with a vacuum penis injury about once a month. Never asked for details but the kids in that program weren't all that intelligent so wouldn't be surprised if some of them allowed the hose the stick to their pubis. That would have been painful enough, and made worse by panicking instead of turning it off.
>>106530872Aliexpress has plenty of them. There are open source firmware replacements and 3d printable FOSS vacuums. No one really bothers because they're cheap enough from Ali and the parts change too frequently for there to be open source firmware for every model.
>>106529663putting on a maid costume for cleaning time is very cute(personally I like robovacs tho, save for the proprietary sw)
>>106531047>roborock 6smisread as robocock
I can't really imagine these things being even slightly useful. My family are retarded and will leave their shit all over the floor, so you have to pick that up, it doesn't do stairs, and it takes forever to pick up next to nothing. Vacuuming is a hassle, but it takes 10 minutes a week.
>>106529629i got one and it was life changing.
>>106531840I have a mate who has two cats in a 2 bedroom apartment. It always had cat hair and over dirt all over the place. One day I visited I immediately noticed the place looked freshly vacuumed. I asked if he had just vacuumed and he showed me his new robot vacuum. That immediately sold me on them.
>>106529629Christ that's overpriced. Doesn't really offer anything over a 7 year old model at half the price.
>>106531840>>106532083Dramatically improved my allergies using one, and it only ran like once a week.
>>106531867What's actually life changing is a dish washer. They actually do a better job at washing dishes than humans. Meanwhile, even the best robot vacuums struggle to compete with a person who is competent at cleaning.
>>106529629i have a roborock qrevo master, it's great. the mop is an absolutely must. the only a bit annoying part at first is that it just cannot handle wires, it gets stuck on them, so it forces you to have an organized room with all the cables hidden, which ends being a very good thing. the AI object detection is completely unreliable so it is better to disable all of that, and just get used to not leave crap on the floor.
>>106532207>Meanwhile, even the best robot vacuums struggle to compete with a person who is competent at cleaning.Yeah but you can buy a robot for like 1k and then just let it run while you do other shit. You have to pay more over time for a person, or you have to give up your own time and clean.
>>106532274I know.
>>106529643No, you don't, balding virgin loser.
>>106531050I hope they will react to this post calling the valetudo dev the stenzek of vacuum robots.
>>106529629too many cables on the ground
I got a Roborock s8 pro ultra recently off eBay. So far it's working pretty well. It allegedly comes with a two year warranty
>>106532207totally wrong. dish washers are similar to robo vacs. neither of them are going to be do everything perfectly, they will miss some stuff, stuck on grime might need you to do it manually. but both of them let you clean lots of things while saving time and not doing it yourself. robovac can even clean while youre not home, you dont have to load up fishes or put them away.
>>106529629can't use mine after moving out...mother didn't want to follow me
>>106535560You might just have a bad dish washer. Mine does the job 98% of the time. The remaining 2% is for dishes that can't survive its heat, things I placed poorly in it, or extreme cases that need a lot of scrubbing. Relatively speaking, it does a much, much better job than my robot vacuum.
>>106529629Dreame vacuums are great ngl.Saves me a lot of work because I hate cleaning in general.
>>106535750you dont scrub food debris off before putting it in the dishwasher? that means you will need to clean more often too.
>>106535939I rinse it first, but if I straight up scrubbed the dished beforehand, then I might as well wash them myself, which defeats the purpose.
>>106536069what dishwasher do you have? i find it hard to believe that it would be able to disintegrate food thats kinda hard and stuck on without scrubbing it off.
is there a robot mop yet? small particles of dust which have not adhered to the surface can be cleaned in literally 30 seconds even for large spaces. the real problems are those which require a mop.>>106529663>Just get a vacuum mop and a maid outfit. lol
>>106536755all of them having a mopping feature now. some just dont mop very strongly.
I grabbed a Xiaomi X10 when it went on sale here for 200€ to upgrade my old Roomba 980 and I'm pretty happy with it.
>>106536231>i find it hard to believe that it would be able to disintegrate food thats kinda hard and stuck onIt doesn't. But that happens very rarely to my dishes.
>>106530851w-why does xi jinping want to know where my bedroom is... aaaa
How do you use this shit if there's always someone at home?
>>106529629>robot vacuumDon't waste your time. But your mum, sister or gf a Dyson.
>>106529629Dreame is sus, I have router logs of it trying to log in as admin. I’m sure that was the device hadn’t changed because no DHCP assignment happened between when it tried to log on and when I viewed the currently connected devices/ipv4 addresses.
>>106537303>That was the device, because no DHCP assignment happenedGuess I’m having issues today
>>106529629>$1700Do i really need to spend that much to get a decent vacumm?I really only need one for my small apartment when im off at work Im willing to spend like $300 dollars on one
>>106537755I have xiaomi S20+ robo cleaner and its amazing, I payed about $220 for it. You need to pay $1700 if you are a lazy nigger who can't clean mops or dust chamber once for a month.
