Duracells leak easier because they make the separating layers so thin to get that extra 15mAh over the competition.

literally every AA I've bought since covid fucking leaks now

no idea what those kikes did but it's destroying everything I own

switch to zinc carbon for low drain devices, whether contantly used (clocks) or intermittently used (remote controls)

lithium for high drain intermittently used

and ni-mh for high drain constantly used devices (self-discharge rate makes it unsuitable for intermittent use, but if youre gonna drain something quickly, all in one go, then theyre the way to go)
>>
>>106541440
are you from 2008?
LSD ni-mh keep 70% of their charge for a year minimum
>>
>>106541397
Why are you still using AA batteries? Are you poor?
>>
>>106540959
only battery that I've had consistently leak is the ones from costco
which is weird because duracell manufactures the kirkland ones I think

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has noticed this. Despite all the marketing as a top-tier brand, I have repeatedly seen Duracell batteries leak. At work, half the time I open the battery compartment of a keyboard, they have leaked (even if they are not expired). But I've never seen Energizer or Rayovac leak.

Put Secondary Cells in things you care about and Primary Cells in the cheap chinese trash. Or just buy decent Primaries (not duracell) and take them out when not in use. Or follow this autism (>>106541440) which is 100% correct.

18650s can also randomly burn your house down
alkalines, nimhs, carbon zincs etc can't, unless you do something completely retarded like try to charge alkalines. they won't just randomly spotaneously combust while you're at work or sleeping
>>
>>106541440
Unless you're only getting Panasonics, zinc ones can leak too and the damage is worse because it's acidic.
Energizers really don't leak as often as Duracell though.

Are Eneloops (and rebranded Eneloops) the only Ni-MH with low self discharge? Why can't any other brand compete?
>>
>>106550701
I think pretty much all NiMH are LSD these days.
Eneloops just have better lifespan because superior nipponese battery rolled over 1000 times.
>>
Question, whatever happened to those Zinc Ion batteries that Samsung LG and the Germans were developing? Are they being applied to anything on an industry scale or was it all hype and vaporware?
Because having a best of both worlds battery made of shit that can basically be filtered out of sea water, is rechargeable, AND doesn't exploding is very appealing to me.

i bought some aa's with a built in usbc charger that haven't failed me yet
I wont mention the brand(pic related is just an example), and you should probably find a brand that you can 'trust' but they are great
I have a few more than I need so I just charge the unneeded batteries and swap them out when they die
these have been the most reliable aa's I've ever used

GP has made LSD ni-mh for a decade now
>>
>>106541440
>self-discharge rate makes it unsuitable for intermittent use
Eneloop self-discharge is like 50% over 10 years, and you can always top them off before use.

All I have is those and some made in USA Rayovacs for rare devices that actually need alkaline. Nobody designs for zinc.
>>
>>106551426
Like 30 years ago maybe. They've been mostly better than alkaline for a while now. Pay for themselves after 2 or 3 cycles. Just get a good charger that can handle individual cells like Panasonic or Maha.

No, there's tons of LSD batteries, including cheap store brand stuff.
They usually say something like "Pre-charged. Ready to use" on the package.

>>
the best way to avoid leaking is using devices that fully turn off
leaking usually happens when the device is constantly drawing some standby current from the battery
>>
>>106552660
>>106553132
Eneloops say it can keep 70% after 10 years
All the other brands say they can keep 70-80% after only 1 year

Are Eneloops really that much better, or are they over-bragging?
>>
>>106556466
You have to qualify it with storage temp. They use 20C, which is very optimistic. There's also a tradeoff between capacity and self-discharge rate.

Eneloops are the best though. They're not likely to be unseated at this point either because NiMH isn't a growth sector.
