>friend majoring in cyber-security
>wants me to guide him through basic ubuntu shit like installing firefox
>cousin wants to major in mechanical engineering
>wants me to install pc fans for him
come on now. i don't mind helping out, but if you're gonna major in something that involves doing tech stuff yourself, do it yourself! it should be easier in the age of AI

Are you here for your hugbox points? Either put up and shut up or do something about it.

Also.

You don't look like that and you will never pass.

Why is everyone posting School Days here instead of Lain now?

They're not supposed to be useful outside of a very specialized role in a big company.
>>
Based Setsunafag.
Just tell them no if you don't want to act like tech support for free.

Cyber security is a meme (unless you do wild malware analysis at some big firm or university), case in point: your friend needs help installing freakin' ubuntu.
Also, mechanical engineering is about designing Ducatis and Ferraris, not building pcs (he'll probably end up working as a CAD monkey tho)

The whole future is very grim when it comes to any kind of IT work
Until recently I worked at university.
Our CS students were completely unable to install any editor/IDE, java and a basic C compiler on their laptops.
They started clogging up our university helpdesk to set these things up for them
> "let's build VM images instead that contain everything needed for the class and 2 editors set up ready to use"
> literally all they have to do is download one of the VM images and start it, we offer images for all the main hypervisors
> offer a step by step guide
> most students needed just as much handholding to do that, help and support mails still clogged up all the mail channels

I love posts like this because they make me feel intelligent for a fleeting moment :)

If you get the chance, speak with a teacher about tech know-how of teenagers. Gen Z is already around boomer level when it comes to tech.
Gen alpha and iPad kids are so much worse. To them it is all pure magic.

since when do tech universities have helpdesks now? what the fuck?
>>

If only you knew...

Speak to a knowledgeable Gen Z too, they will tell you the same. I'm often asked advice from my CS friends, and I'm the one that sets up everyone's computers despite being a nihongo major
>>
>>106553115
yesterday I had to show an ex-computer science lecturer with multiple phd's how to install a ssd into a desktop
>>
>>106554632
Yes of course. Wasn't trying to imply that ALL Gen Z are tech illiterate. Must be quite the whiplash for those who aren't.
>>106554145
Yeah, initially they were meant for shit like university email, uni computer access, account problems etc.
But now they are basically university tech support because, as you can imagine, many students in general are simply not able to get into university wifi either on their own...

They probably just want connection and friendship.
