Major happening, Windows 7 support has been discontinued by Google. As well as earlier Windows plus the Lynx and Links browser (mentioned on the orange site). It looks like Google is upping the browser requirements from when it used to work on almost anything due to the increasing amount of AI features plus also cracking down on companies that scrape Google results.

What ever you think about old web browsers and operating systems, Google had the resources to support them, and now chooses not to. Expect a lot of ewaste from this.

>But you can still use random github browser or extended extended support release Firefox

Need a browser to download a browser, and using a usb stick from another pc with a newer os is basically the same thing.

Windows 8.1 still works for now and possibly Windows 7 if you manage to install IE11, but then again you have to solve the browser paradox.

You are sitting there with IE open. IE is integrated into the OS via the MSHTML embedded bullshit. It is forever unpatched.
The fucking kernel itself allows for privilege escalation with the Win32k LPEs vulnerabilities.

windows users dont actually care about security, or they would use literally anything else. why expose yourself to the largest attack surface to ever exist? windows is the #1 target for everyone up to and including the nsa, which come up with exploits and dont even tell microshit! this argument is always retarded. redditors really think daddy microjew work around the clock to keep them safe at night like fucking batman. delusional
>>
>>106565845
>save yourself the bullshit
I got the latest version of Mint installed with dual boot. Fire it up and had not internet due to dated ethernet drivers. So I had to boot back into Windows, bring the drivers into Linux then manually run the install script via cmd. Just to get the fucking ethernet working. That was some serious bullshit.
I played around with it for a few hours and it was fine. But it feels really dated and archaic.
>>
>>106564019
>Expect a lot of ewaste from this.
Like 99% of windows 7 machines are just boxes in a store or business that never use the browser at all though.
Install a different OS that gets support if you have a shitty piece of hardware that can't run the newer versions
>>
>>106565926
>So I had to boot back into Windows, bring the drivers into Linux
skill issue. retards always bumble their way through and then blame the os.
>>
>>106565951
Having to manually install ethernet drivers on the latest available version of an OS is pretty fucking stupid. Who is going to be interested in converting from windows when these are the hoops you have to jump through just to get things running.
Also, I got the NVIDIA display drivers installed once the internet was fucking working, rebooted and had a permanent black screen with blinking cursor. So I'm doing safe boot and booting and older kernel or recovery mode just to get things running again.
If you have unlimited time to be dicking around and tinkering with things, then I guess Linux can be fine. But for people with jobs and families and committments, spending 100% of your allocated computer time on just getting the OS to work isnt going to fly
>>
>>106565926
>I got the latest version of Mint installed
Oh god there's your problem. Mint is NOT good. People walk away from Linux because they get told "it's the streamlined Linux" when that hasn't been true for years. Mint is dated and archaic as fuck but was genuinely groundbreaking in the 2010's...sadly, it's still carrying a 2010's reputation that is completely undeserved when any modern distro with Plasma 6 exists. I could give a laundry list of reasons why Mint sucks but I'm sure you're already well acquainted just by using it. I promise you Mint's problems won't molest you on actually modern distros.

That's just a Mint problem, I'm seriously telling you that's just a Mint problem. Aurora, Ultramarine, Bazzite, CachyOS, all of them just fucking work. Linux Mint was designed to be as user friendly as possible by 2012 standards, but in 2012 Linux wasn't even a serious desktop OS; it IS a serious desktop OS in 2025 and is outright easier and more convenient with less setup than Windows, as long as you don't pick Mint lol

>>
>>106566057
You're a moron. Anon had the exact expected experience from following the common platitudinous advice "just install Mint" and got met with the obvious reality that Mint hasn't been worth a fuck in years. You're not doing a good job convincing him to choose an actually good distro; instead you're teaching him that Linux well and truly sucks and its userbase are all coping fags. Fact is, when someone uses a shit distro that's misleadingly sold to them as the best Linux for Windows users, and they rightfully hate it for being a shit distro, they're not going to blame the distro; they're going to blame Linux.

i dont care about convincing people to make their own decisions. i know you are a corporate shill with the sole objective of convincing people not to even try, so this is above you really, but i really dont care. you are free to use a dogshit os that makes all the decisions for "this pc", it doesnt bother me. those who care will put the effort in.
