At least it sounded good which is more than what can be said for their newer models like Arya. Stuff based on their older designs like HE400SE is pretty good, though, sound wise. Build quality is the same old $2 chinesium.

Ignoring the lackluster build quality, yeah it is. Superior to the regular HE6 as far as distortion goes and the frequency response is decent as well. You need a pretty powerful desktop amplifier for those, however. 1370 mv for 94 dB, even more if you plan to EQ. Still a far superior headphone to all their Arya derivatives.

Can someone help me find out an European brand alternative to Koss Porta Pro? It doesn't matter if it's of a bit less quality and is of a gaming brand like Logitech, Trust etc. but of course would be better if it's something like Sennheiser or AKG.

No. Noire X has a treble peak between 4 and 5k some people are bothered by, you can see that in some reviews. Drivers are basically the same since resonances are in the same spots on both. XO has the benefit of the frequency response being less variable and fit dependent due to its open nature. Unless you actually want headphones with more treble than Harman, in which case, yeah probably.
>>106576987
Qudelix 5K provided you use the balanced output. 240mW per channel should be more than enough to drive them at 94+ dB SPL. Comes with bluetooth also if you need that sort of thing. FiiO BTR7 is quite good as well.

Anyone use the Topping DX5 II? Seems like its most recent firmware fixed the issues it had/was having.

Seems pretty good function and performance wise for the price as a desktop headphones unit. Bonus for me is the built in EQ and being able to run my monitors through it as well.
>>
>>106581511
It's alright. I'd rather get a SHP9500 if you can find it for cheap. For the most economical choice, chinkshit IEM FOTM sloppa is unbeatable, though.
>>
>>106575102
>If you could get a closed-back headphone that sounded open, would you?
I did. The DCA Noire X are exactly this. They sound as open as my DT1990 Pro (before EQ) but much more detailled.
>>
>>106581541
No, I have the Topping DX3 Pro+ instead which seems a far lesser deal now.
I won't be upgrading because it still does what I need it to do (mainly provide Bluetooth to my wired headphones) but if I were buying today I would go for the DX5 II instead.
>>
there's a pair of headphones i want to buy, but there are some reviews online saying it sounds "underwhelming"

>>
>>106575102
>If you could get a closed-back headphone that sounded open, would you?
No, because I mostly use open backs to keep my ears cool.
IMO comfort is the most important thing with headphones, more important than sound quality.

>What about small DAC/Amps without battery like thr Moondrop Dawn Pro? Would the balance output from it be powerful enough?
Dawn Pro only outputs 120 mW at 32 ohms which might not be enough for HD600. Try FiiO KA13 instead, according to the manufacturer it outputs 170 mW at 32 ohms per channel, so that's 340 mW total. No need to use balanced with more noise that way. And you still have more headroom just in case since the balanced outputs over 1W at 32 ohms.

Cloud 2 got a revision after HP bought them too, they removed the brushed texture on the sliders, the metal plates on the cups, the rubberized coating on all the parts, the embroidered logo on the headband, and most importantly removed all the acoustic tuning material from inside the cups and replaced the metal driver grille with a plastic one which completely fucked up the sound.

>Any low distortion planar is the endgame of headphones once properly EQ'd
My HE400se is so heavily eq'd they turned into something completely different
>>
LCD2c generally this congest sounding? i thought they were soundstage kings..

>Enjoying them?
Yeah they sound completely different and way better than my HD6XXs I replaced. Very comfortable, build quality is amazing. I really dont notice they are closed back, either.

I was also worried about my ears getting hot but that is not the case, thankfully.

>LCD2c generally this congest sounding?
Yes, due to the recessed treble. Add a high shelf filter to get rid of that veil effect. Even Audeze seems to think their headphones are better EQ'd since they have an app that has built in presets for their headphones. Used to be free but now they want you to pay a subscription for what's basically EQ APO kek.
>>106586031
Exactly what I meant. If you have good planars you can make them sound like basically anything you want.

modding lcd2cb to c was a wrong idea even though it sounds kind of impressive open but not for the long run....

Treble deficient and less bass than either II or Alpha. If you thought M50x didn't have enough bass then these have even less.

What is "le best" semi open or open back headphone which can sufficiently be powered with a US market Apple USB-C dongle?
Is it the AKG K-240 MKII?
>>
Any suggestions if I have roommates trying to win the who can make the most noise competition? I'm going to lose my mind if I can't find a headset that can shut them out.

Aune AR5000. More sensitive than some IEMs, could be driven off of a phone. Lower distortion than kilobuck DD headphones. Have a sensitivity list in case you want to see some other models.

(addendum)
I'm actually trying to go for a trio setup for each occasion on my desktop pc.
Three Apple dongles powering:
>original Apple corded ear pods
My current "daily driver" ie the one I use the most. Decent mic for everyday communication as well.
>Koss Porta Pro (with mic on cord)
For whenever I want my ears covered a little and mostly daily use as well.
>full headphone that I get recommended or the aforementioned AKG
For extended music and movie sessions.

Oh and to add to that, Verum One is also pretty good but the delivery takes like 4 weeks since it's made by one schizo in his basement which is why I recommended the Aune instead.
