Generals are cancer
I wrote brief impressions of the Gateron Lanes switches that just arrived here: >>106566192(Other thread was on the verge of death so in case anyone missed it)
>>106538279 >>106539885 I've decided that fuck it, I'll get that Keychron v6 Max, and I'll either give Aula away or keep it as a backup. Since that one wasn't barebones (Keychron is), it's a fully operational keyboard once I put the original keys back in.
>>106569150Now, to be clear, although you can stop it indicating under the numlock/etc., it doesn't have a dedicated indicator LED anywhere so if you disable the lights under the switches you won't be able to know whether caps lock/etc are enabled.
>>106569150I decided to put my v6 max mod in a short rentry so I can just link it when people say they have a v6 max or are buying one:https://rentry.org/v6max_modPls consider.
>>106570930I don't mind that that much. I very, very rarely looked at the indicators on my old keyboard, mostly just watching the output, but for something like passsworfs it might be useful. If it's an option, then maybe I'll keep it for caps lock, but turn it off for numlock (I've got numlock effectively almost always on). Could I also control how bright the indication under the key would be? Maybe on lowest brightness it wouldn't be as glaring. Is there any QMK tutorial around? You write scripts for it in C if you want to customize it more, right? At least that's what I've seen. I haven't programmed anything in it in years (and I generally almost don't nowadays), but I did in the past, so I might be able to handle it with an initial push.>>106571339Thanks. I feel like this might be a bit above my abilities, but I'll consider it in the future. I generally don't care so much about the "quality" of the sound, since I just want to make it quieter. I guess with a foam mod I could just stuff more of it to achieve that goal?
>>106571595Oh if it's silent then none of that matters lol, probably just best to keep the foams in
>>106571595Yeah they're in C. I don't even know C particularly but the tweaks you'd make are so basic that you really don't need to.You'll need to install QMK MSYS, which is the program that does the QMK compiling:https://msys.qmk.fm/And you'll need to copy Keychron's 'wireless playground' branch of the QMK repo:https://github.com/Keychron/qmk_firmware/tree/wireless_playgroundFrom there it's just a matter of making a copy of the V6 max in the keyboards folder, making any edits you want to make to its files, and then compiling it with QMK MSYS and flashing your board with that same program. IIRC. Also the V6 max can I believe be started in bootloader mode by holding esc when you connect the usb cable.QMK MSYS can be a bit unwieldy at first
Gateron Lanes are so cool... I have to do a build with these, never used anything like them
Not really keyboard but what would be the IBM M equivalent of mouse? After trying all kind on keyboards I settled on IBM which will be my forever keyboard, I do have mouse that goes with it but no scroll wheel, no side buttons and uses ball ofc so not comfy to use. Currently I have old G400. Want something similar to keyboard in color and a bit more brutalist than regular consumer mouses.

>>106572177>look them up>seeing comparisons to ALPS OrangesHoly fuck, this requires investigation. Getting a board with a similar feel to Oranges, but having actual keycap options/NKRO/VIA, would probably be my endgame mechanical board.
>>106575015Haven't ever tried Alps, only know them from videos/etc so can't make comparisons myself. Please make sure to see this though, the inconsistency of the click suppressing design from one switch to another is maybe a major flaw: >>106566192
