I wish I didn't have to make this thread, but I really need help. How tf do people edit video? All I am doing is trying to cut an hour long and make a few cuts. Open shot works amazing for me if its a short video. As soon as I import a longer video with more than four cuts, it completely goes to shit. My computer isn't lagging in any other program, just OpenShot. The video playback of OpenShot is quite good. It's actually scrolling around the timeline, and the menus that bog tf down when I'm editing. I tried DaVinci Resolve today, but my video is choppy/green-gltichy so I would guess it's framerate and codec issues that I do not understand. Yes I can see where you change the specs of the project (gear bottom right) but I don't know exactly what to change the specs to make it work. The video is an mp4. Just 720p, 30fps I believe. Windows 10. Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700 CPU @ 3.40GHz 3.41 GHzInstalled RAM 32.0 GBStorage 954 GB SSD KingFastGraphics Card NVIDIA GeForce GT 1030 (4 GB)System Type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processorI have wanted for years to work on video, but for I always run into stoopid issues that force me to quit. The topic of video editing has just been impenetrable for me. I'm not keen on adobe. But I will try it as a last resort. How do I get video editing figured out and actual use my hardware to its full potential? I really want to stick with OpenShot, but it's just too slow once I get either a large number of edits or a large video file. And I refuse to post on their sub-reddit. I am wondering if someone can illuminate the SECRET SAUCE that will make editing videos at least slightly less painful.
>>106569883OpenShot was complete useless shit when I first tried it several years ago, and judging by your comment, not much has changed.DaVinci is great, that's what I use, but it can be a bit hardware intensive. From my own experience, Premiere runs a bit more efficiently, but Adobe is crap, if you're going that route, at least make sure to pirate it.On the open source side of things, Kdenlive is absolutely the best video editor I've tried, It is stable, it has a decent set of features, it gets the job done. That being said, it is nowhere near as good as DaVinci or Premiere, the interface is clunky, some things work in weird unintuitive ways and it will take you longer to do some stuff, but if you're patient and willing to learn its quirks it may be worth giving it a shot, at least as a starting point.
>>106569883I suggest shotcut instead.
>>1065698831. Take the premiere pill anon, I edit huge videos without issue every week. 2. Your video card is gargantuan turbo ass so that isn't helping anything, try software rendering and turning off hardware acceleration features in Davinci or other programs.3. Check if the section that appears glitchy in the preview actually renders that way by just rendering out a minute of footage on either side, if it renders ok then edit like normal. If it comes out fucked up then you know the footage is borked.4. Download k lite before you do any of this other shit just to save yourself some hassle. 5. If you start to chimp out jerk off or watch funny cats, that helps me stay grounded when fighting video files and software.
>>106569883I downloaded a script for MPV that lets me cut segments out of videos, and then I wrote a batch script that lets me just drag and drop all the segments onto it and it sticks them together using ffmpeg.Yeah, it's janky but I find it easier than installing some shitty video editor, which I don't know how to use.If I did this sort of stuff more often then I would probably try and make a proper GUI app for it
>>106569883When I tried openshot a while ago, it segfaulted every few minutes so I deleted it. Don't waste your time on it.>>106569990I second Kdenlive for simple stuff.
>>106570174>I downloaded a script for MPV that lets me cut segments out of videosbased excerpt enjoyer
>>106569883Openshot is easy to learn and would be great if it actually worked. Fine if you're slapping together things with simple edits and no concern for precise cuts.It keeps moving your in & out points, and adding effects seemed like you're video editing with vi.I used it to edit a birthday video once, and I don't know how I managed it. Must've been a fucking fluke that evening as I don't remember any big frustration points. The cuts seemed fine, and I even added subtitles.Sometime later I tried to do a simple edit to a 30 second video clip. Fade in to intro text, crossfade to video, fade to black. Nothing fucking worked. In/out points kept moving, sound kept fucking up fade out stopped just before full black.Every now & then I check back with OS. Still shit.
use the blender vseit justwerx
>>106569990>>106570040Thank you anons. These are great suggestions. While we're on the topic, I would love it if one of these programs had some interoperability with OBS. For example, the shader filter on OBS is so damn powerful. You can essentially make any video effect with it.
>>106569883If all you're doing is cutting stuff, wouldn't Lossless Cut suffice? And it does the job almost instantly, no rendering wait time required.
>>106570552Saved. I'll look into it. I had to basically find and remove several sections, but I also had to censor some naughty words. So examine the waveform, muting single word parts of it.
blender faggot
>>106569990>DaVinci is great, that's what I use,What about capcut? Thought it was only for phones but I just installed desktop version.
>>106569883Kdenlive is the best libre video editor though it unfortunately doesn't have OFX support or millisecond precision.
>>106570552>need to cut at a very precise point>video only has one keyframe every 5-10 secondsthere are many many cases where lossless cut wouldn't suffice, it doesn't always "just werk", unless all of your vids are all-intra which is unlikely.
>>106574668Yeah, you're right. I was going to mention that exact issue, but I forgot. In my experience, it's not a huge issue in most cases as non-keyframe cuts (whatever they're called, I haven't used it in a while) are usually close enough, but if your cuts need to be very precise then yeah, it's not a good choice.
>>106569883Your hardware is ass a better program isn't going to be much help If you want to get into it you'll have to invest in mor modern hardware
>>106574668>>106574739fucking retards, the experimental mode cuts to the nearest keyframe and renders the remaining ones until it gets to the exact moment you cut
>>106574744Checked. This is the best I can do right now sadly. What do I actually need?
Movie Maker
>>106575459>Movie Makerrip
>>106575450Avidemux or lossless cut with experimental mode, ignore retards. Anyhow, your hardware can run every editing software for 1080p video
Davinci Resolve/thread
>>106569883I use kdenlive https://kdenlive.org/
>>106575512It can still be installed from the Microsoft Store
Lossless Cut with experimental mode on for frame accurate cuts for super quick edits and joins if you want open source. Otherwise just use Davinci Resolve for your edits if they're more complicated. If the video you're cutting from is a weird codec or very compressed etc try putting it into something that edits better like ProRes. It'll inflate the file but it's less processing power to handle.
FOSS=KDEnlineProprietary=Da Vinci Resolve (or pirated Premier)
The most retarded thing about open shot is that when you adjust a value such as vid position or opacity, unless you're at the beginning of the clip you're making a keyframe. You must always jump back to the beginning of the clip to adjust ANYTHING. Once you make a keyframe, it cannot be shifted forward or backward.
