Which is less gay?
Etcher has never worked for meRufus has always worked for medd is the endgame
Ventoy
I use rufus
>>106580236dd just werks
>>106580226Rufus works for windows isos, etcher does not
I'm Team Ventoy
>>106580226Rufus has way more features. It can convert many CD only images to be bootable as USB, or format a drive over 32 GB as FAT32. Etcher isn't much more than a GUI version of "dd if=image.bin of=/dev/sdb". I'll still recommend Etcher to newbies though since it's simpler to use. Also I haven't benchmarked Etcher but Rufus writes images faster than Win32diskimager.
>>106580304For UEFI installs, putting a Windows iso onto a USB is as simple as formatting the USB as exFAT and dragging all the files out of the iso onto it. The UEFI firmware just looks for a FAT/FAT32/exFAT filesystem with a "boot" folder with a usable executable in it. It's BIOS/CSM that needs all kinds of weird fuckery to make a bootable USB for.
>>106580226Etcher is hundreds of MB larger and has less features.
dont even need dd you can just cp ./iso /dev/ice
>>106580376You don't even need cp you can just cat iso >/dev/ice
>>106580226Etcher is spyware/adwareIdk about Rufus>>106580247Ventoy is Chinese malware
>>106580226etcher is literally an electron wrapper for dd
I just use the command prompt, it's a few commands, do brainlets really need a GUI for THAT?For mkvmerge/ffmpeg/yt-dlp etc. I use one myself but that has way more options
>>106581663Rufus is for when your laptop gets shipped with w10 and you gotta put the Linux's ISO on your usb
you should be using the media creation tool for windows
etcher is electron shitware that just says "Something went wrong" whenever there's an errorRufus is traditional win32 software that just werks and doesn't take up hundreds of megabytes
>>106581671and that's not possible with the command prompt? I distincly remember trying out Mint a few years ago, didn't use any program but my memory is shit so maybe I did
>>106580247>VentoyActual aids https://github.com/ventoy/Ventoy/issues/3224About the BLOBs in Ventoy #3224
>>106580328That used to work but apparently the last few updates of Windows have done something fucked up and it doesn't work anymore. I know, I've tried it with two different releases of Windows, and while it works with the old ISO, it doesn't work with the new one.
>>106580226Rufus obviously. Etcher is electron trannyware, while Rufus has decent UI and can even bypass all the faggotry of modern windows.
>>106580258>>106581716>>106581663>choosing to use commandline to create bootable usbwhat kind of freetroon are you?
>>106581688this is kike-approved way of doing bootable usb with no bypass for hardware, ms account and encryption. No, thanks.>>106581801>>106581158>ventoy is spyware because it doesn't comply with my freetroon philosophy
>>106580652You don't even need cat you can do< /path/to/iso.iso > /dev/sdX
>>106580226Rufus has never let me down. Its well-designed and just works. I appreciate that I have access to such a quality tool.
>>106580226gnome disk utility
>>106580226Rufus is as close as it gets to perfection, at least when it comes to Windows software. It's a small portable FOSS program that does one thing really well with no pointless frills and stays out of your way.
>>106581925r u poor?
>>106582323Only Linux ISOs which abuse the format to contain a valid MBR on top of a CD filesystem. Windows ISOs won't work, nor any other sane ISOs ripped from optical media
>>106582710GRUB can handle raw ISO9660/UDF.

>>106580226>Etcher>based on Electron (?!?!?)>150 to 200MB>Rufus>just based>2MBDo I need to say more?
>>106582354>gnome disk utilitywhy did you post ebassy picture when disks is made by a german chad who works at microsoft?
>>106582354fedora media writer
Etcher of spyware
>>106580236fpbp
>>106580226Whenever I use Rufus to create Fedora media (or a derivative like Bazzite), the media self-check at boot always fails. Tried both hybrid and DD modes.Honestly I just skip the check and use the media anyway, and everything works fine. But it does suggest that Rufus is molesting the image in some way rather than just writing it as-is, which isn't ideal. Or maybe I should be blaming Windows instead?
>>106582364so having some sort of dignity means that you are poor now?
>>106580236>dd is the endgamejust use cat
>>106580226Isn't Etcher a massively bloated Electron piece of shit? That's incredibly gay.
>>106584572Abuse
>>106584826whops, obviously I meant cp
>>106582774GRUB can. BIOS cannot. The goal is a USB stick that can be booted by BIOS on a computer with a blank hard disk, so you can install an OS.
>>106584826It copies its input to its output, just like a real cat. Where is the abuse?
