can someone explain updates to me?
imagine a game has an update and it's a 5gb update but you're on vacation so you never end up updating the game, when u come home later another update has been released this one is 500mb, how is it possible that ur only updating ur game with 500mb now?
shouldn't it be 5gb+500mb. ur getting the content of the 5gb update + the new 500mb one.
i don't get it, how do developers do this?

compression or maybe they got rid of that 5gb update

That doesn't happen, but when it does, it's called delta encoding.

If a change was made and then overwritten or rolled back, you shouldn't need to first make the first change and then the second, they just deliver what needs to be changed in your version to update it to the latest version directly.

some games download the data from the launcher and extra data once you're in-game. gachas and mmos do this.

It downloads the new files you need. That's it.
