i'm gonna write my own OS

You won’t do shit.

based

i'll get to work on the wallpaper

that's nice
writing an OS isn't that hard; many undergraduate CS students do it in the course of completing their degree as a course project
the difficult parts are preemptive multitasking, self-hosting, driver support, and efficiency/performance
Mach/HURD has been in development for 40 years and is still unusable for real-world applications
>>
Software rendering is shit so you won't be able to make a good OS until we have an open GPU.
>>
>>106596154
The real difficult part is that "real-world applications" is a moving target that only a very large project can keep up with
Forget about Hurd, even the BSDs are struggling
>>
>>106596926
Software rendering is the only valid form of rendering and we should have stuck with that. I'll write a hand-optimized triangle rasterized over heaps of mindnumbing Vulkan boilerplate any day.

To what, get 20 FPS on a game from 2007?
>>
>>106591812
and I am not going to use it.
>>
>>106597728
noo dude it's sovl i read on twitter from 1337basedhacker that cpu rendering is basingaaa
>>
>>106597728
To exclude retards from making games and force games to distinguish themselves graphically in terms of style and creativity instead of it being a competition on deepthroats RTX faggotry and """realism""" the hardest.

Can we make a minecraft clone with software rendering? 60fps possible?

>Can we make a minecraft clone with software rendering? 60fps possible?
Ken Silverman's voxel engine from the early 2000s is unironically way more impressive than Mineshift and it ran at 40 FPS on my mid-range computer even back then.

Surprisingly, the page is still up.

Cool beans. Someone write VoxelGameOS using the UEFI VESA drivers. I'll be waiting to be your first player

Oh fuck off. I hate fun haters. Why do you hate fun?

I figured you were mocking me and I'm still not convinced you weren't.

Anyone here ever look at the Linux kernel?
>>
>>106598028
Assuming it's possible, it's a good idea. CPU rendering is good for software freedom.
>>
>>106598123
Should be possible.
>CPU rendering is good for software freedom
Yep. Probably won't be long before they start introducing all kinds of GPU restrictions.
>>
>>106598080
I read it from time to time (don't understand shit anyway)
