Because they were too expensive to manufacture and companies are here to make as much money as possible.

Having said that, it's still an insane tech that to this day provides an image style that cannot be replicated in modern screens, at least without carefully crafted filters that still won't capture the real thing. Sad to see such a cool and world changing tech go away like that, but there is really no reason to go back to all those inconveniences for 99% of people.
