alright. you convinced me to try this advanced tech.so far so good, i'm currently running it as normal user (owner of /nix) on my normal linux installationcurrently compiling a bunch of stuff because i decided to recompile a package by disabling substitution.obviously, whats cool is that it just keeps compiling without a single error. already must have compiled 20 packages all by itself. looking good.one question. where is the documentation? would be nice if "--help" worked (like every other program that i've ever used.)the website documentation assumes i'm already a level 10 wizard.
i have to say that its refreshing to see an interrupted line of green "ok"s during the configure phase of compiles.its obviously a gigantic time saver this thing. happy i gave it a spin!
>>106601036>DocumentationThere's a guide and a wiki, but you're best off just copypastaing things until you get a feel for the code.
>>106601036>documentationmynixos.com is a fast search through ALL the options and packages.theres also a wiki page, but I learned most at the start from vimjoyer and librephoenix on youtube
Why use nix when guix exists? Are you woke?
>>106601135>>106601114i found the good manual.>>>106601135>>106601114the wiki is better. thanks. i also found the manual which is clear for a noob>https://nix.dev/manual/nix/2.30/>>106601151tell more. what practical differences are there?
>>106601151i just want quick access to extra software on my existing installation.i might install both side by side and compare.
nix seems interesting but unfortunately i don't meet the gender dysphoria requirements to run it
>>106601151Guix has no drivers
Oh boy! systemd with extra steps!
https://guix.gnu.org/manual/en/html_node/Features.htmlhttps://guix.gnu.org/manual/en/html_node/Package-Management.htmli prefer this documentation.i also didnt have to look for it very long.
>>106601162https://lab.abilian.com/Tech/Linux/Packaging/Guix%20vs.%20Nix/
>>106601193>>106601187i dont care about running it as a distribution. i already have a system. i just care about having a handy user package manager where i can try out software without any effort. something to run as a normal user.
seems like there was a purge of normal people at nixos in 2024.i might go for guix. seems less political
>>106601193i use nix on void btw
>>106601187>>106601221It's a common lie anyway: https://gitlab.com/nonguix/nonguixGuix, compared to nix, makes it trivial to create your own channels vor add others. Also makes it easy to create your own (install) images (with regular kernel and Firmware)https://systemcrafters.net/craft-your-system-with-guix/full-system-install/
>>106601036>>106601314> websearch for nix> official Website uses rainbow LogoYeah no thanks
>>106601355does guix have something like home-manager?
>>106601377https://guix.gnu.org/manual/devel/en/html_node/Home-Configuration.html
seems like they even forced the founder to leave.thats rough. that means people have no respect for the founder, man, you have to draw a line somewhere.if people are not happy, they can make their own project. exclusive for trannies in that case.power hungry people do this kind of shit,
>>106601151>no kde>gnome is outdatedthis is what happens when your distro doesn't use systemd nowadays.
>>106601462but slackware ships with kde by default
>>106601426Trans people are always power hungry when it comes to software projects (or any collaborative efforts really). The "support" is never enough. You are never "welcoming" enough.
>>106601426wait I thought the trannies forked it... did they take over the main project?
This is a pretty insane page https://nixos.org/values/>Values are not a Code of Conduct, they do not define governance structures, and they do not provide specific policies. Instead, values inform the decisions we make about these things. It's like when the cult members say it's not a cult
>>106601481> did they take over the main project?you tell me
anyway, did the trannies get embarrased and leave or are they still in control? what happened with this story?
no problems like this at slackware.its run by a king for life
>>106601524>>106601537Shut up, transphobes.NixOS says trans rights.
