there's a friend from college who got really shit grades and had to retake a semester
his GPA was utter goddamn shit like 2.4 or something on the 7th semester when we're taking internship together. At the end of the internship though, he got yelled out a lot and got called "unprofessional" too many times by his mentors. He often come to me to ask for fixes, while generally I keep telling him his reports are generally okay.

He's done with the internship early, and then he went to work on his bach thesis. It was a very intricate KPI indicator website made in laravel and it can generate reports into PDF. he wrote like 330+ pages and at least 50% of the whole paper is just fucking bunch of diagrams. I thought he was just a misunderstood genius.

Then he went back to his hometown and got a job by his parents starting back in 2024. It was a 2,2 mill IDR per month job (135 USD) as a business / system analyst (basically just making UML diagrams all day) and his workplace is like, 20 minutes commute from his house. No overtime, no workplace drama, no nothing. He told me often he's gonna get a H1B, or doing a trip to Japan before 2024 ends.

I often see his Discord activity playing stuff like Children of the Light, Deadlock, whatever so I thought his life was pretty chill.

TURNS OUT, HE WAS FUCKING COMPLACENT.

Earlier this year, his parents send him back to Jakarta to complete a fullday onsite webdev bootcamp (really prestigious training center) for 6 months that costs like 40 million IDR (2500 USD). Not to mention that his parents send him living costs each month, rent, food, whatever.

AND HE FAILED THAT SHIT!!!!!!
AND BECAUSE HE GOT SHIT GRADE ON THAT BOOTCAMP, THE TRAINING CENTER DOESN'T GIVE HIM ANY CERTIFICATES AT ALLL!!!!!

I know this. In fact, I've researched how things work in my country (to some degree). Even then, its possible to make money by selling to residential clients (the ones that require little power), but that's literally not allowed here. And then there are small and big commercial customers. Those I wouldn't be able to target with the little money I have.
There are other ways I could make money with these laws... But I'd rather not make everything more complicated for me. But if I really wanted money and didn't care about ethics, I could make a ton of money just by installing solar panels in different places.

I hate the accent so much. There's never been a worse one. Chinese, there's a charm to it, it makes you think of ninjas or something. All the Nigerians I worked with were great. They were all really tall, and spoke great English, just with a pleasant accent. But the Indians talk like a machine gun.

If the work was interesting I wouldn't have minded the "busy season" hours working from 8am to 11pm. Coworkers are cool usually cause everyone kinda hates their lives together during busy season. Pay is/was pretty good right out of college if you don't divide by total hours worked...
