Is this a good TV
Will it last 5-10 years?
I don't want an OLED it will be displaying a lot of static content
There are Samsung/LG ones but I researched more and saw they were "edge-lit miniLED" not full array ones, and the full array ones were double the price of this TCL one that has the same thing.

Who here has TCL TVs? Are they good?
>>
>>106629446
TCLs are fine, I have an AU$500 43" full array QLED of theirs and it performs well enough. HDR looks decent, built in speakers are fine, still a little bit of that LCD glow in dark scenes, but at least they're all Google TVs you can ADB into and deshitify the software.

I wouldn't touch a Smasnug with a 50 foot pole.
>>
I bought a sony tv and it lasted 7 years, now it turns itself off after 5 seconds for some reason
I don't want to spend $900 on a new TV, can't I get one for like $300? maybe a TCL? I don't want any "smart" feature bullshit but I want low latency and wide view angle
>>
>>106629446
Yes , just make sure to get a google tv unit
>>
>>106629446
They're perfectly decent mid-tier TVs, and have Google TV which is the least worst smart TV OS.
>>
>>106629446
do people really watch enough TV anymore to even need a TV like this? you buy some massive $1500 slab and then... what? I haven't actually used my TV in years, it's basically a white noise machine.
>>
>>106630199
>I don't want any "smart" feature bullshit
I looked you cannot get TVs like that any more unless you are buying some weird displays meant to go in a fast food shop or grocery store to display menus and prices

Roku TVs are the only TVs that are objectively amazing! Everything else is e-waste!

>>
>>106629446
I had one fail in 2 years (still under warranty though) we ended up replacing it after it was fixed
>>
>>106630293
Nice bait. You can't even use these things without an internet connection and online account.
>>
I deliberately bought a projector to incentivize myself not to use it during the day
modern projectors are pretty incredible, shit blacks tho
>>
my friend has a QM7K and it's pretty good. Once I get some money saved I"ll get getting one.
>>
>Will it last 5-10 years?

google tv/android tv?
no

normal tv
yes
>>
>>106629446
Hisense is the better chinkbrand
>>
>Google TV
Someday, a Real Monopolies Commision/Sherman Antitrust is gonna come along and wash all this garbage down a drain.
>>
>>106630763
Define "normal TV" in the modern context
>>
>>106632766
better than the hellscape spying tv's with lg webos or samsung tizen?
>>
>>106630763
>>Will it last 5-10 years?
>google tv/android tv?
>no
x83c from 2015: still working fine
x900f from 2018: still working fine
x900h from 2020: still working fine
>>106632766
Google/Android TV is still the least of the evils compared to Roku, FireTV, WebOS, or Tizen. Turn on apps only mode and you'll only have a banner ad at most.
>>
>>106634055
implying google isn't spying? it's literally their business model
>>
>>106635135
they probably dont get news articles going about how they screenshot your desktop and send the data to china
>>
I went to the store and the TCLs were the only TVs that were off so I don't think I'm gonna get one of them. And those stores make it really hard to not pick an OLED I don't know if it's on purpose but literally every other TV looked like trash compared to any oled model on display. The only one that looked comparable was some samsung one and I don't want a samsung TV shoved with ads
>>
>>106635254
I bought an OLED (LG B7A) but the black frames in between each real frame made it look too flickery while gaming, so I returned it. Now I'm scared to buy another OLED
>>
My LGay woled is starting to form death pixel clusters at the top edge after 5 years. Is the only other option Chinksung qdoled or a Sony woled?
>>
>>106635379
dead pixels around the edges is extremely common for woleds
maybe higher end monitors have less, idk does qd oled suffer similar defects
>>
What's weird is a lot of the TVs did not look better than the 10+ year old plasma TV I'm looking to replace. And it's not like they were cheap they were still like $1000+. Better ones were all around the $2000 mark. Maybe I should wait until black friday and those will come down a bit. I thought even a $500 one would be way better looking by now.
>>
I've had a Hisense for 3 years now. Works just fine. Obv. if theres's an issue with. the panel you'll prob notice it within the first month or so.
>>
>>106635395
My qdoled monitor is only a year old. I don't think they know the longterm problems with then. But I think I may be better of getting a cheaper woled and replace it every 5 years.
>>
>>106635502
qd oled from samsung is typically the cheapest option tho
>>
>>106635511
Samsung make qd oled monitors now?
>>
>>106629446
>>106629762
>chang posting
not buying your cheap shit that develops worse picture quality in a year. mass produced crapware is cheap for a reason.
>>
>>106629446
I bought a 55Q750G last year for about $500
It's pretty okay. Full Array Local Dimming is nice. Hasn't given me problems after messing with it (at least until I found the setting to turn off automatic game mode which destroys the colors). Gonna spend your first day messing with calibration since whatever it shipped with is actually fucking ass and I thought I got scammed. Shouldn't expect more from a chink company.
>>
Would you guys go 55" and better tech or 65" and worse tech?

Are there still any good 'Dumb' TV's left in the market? I just want something I can plug a little Intel Nuk into and not worry about Android OS nonsense shitting itself with unwanted updates along with having to agree to let the CCP or Worst Korea spy on my ass.
>>
>>106635254
They fuck up the settings on purpose to make the cheaper TV's look shittier. They want to up sell you
>>
>>106637123
sometimes if you have living room situation where loads of people watch from further away a larger tv is much better experience.
>>
>>106635330
Boomer tip: flicker goes away around 85hz.
>>
>>106635455
That's because plasmas are better than modern LCD, they were phased out for being heavy. Light screen = goldstein saves money shipping, stacy can carry it into her house easier, and stacy can carry it OUT of her house easier (thus consooming more new TV's
>>
>>106637347
Just don't hook it up to the internet
>>
>>106637426
It's just weird to me TVs seem to be some kind of tech to be swapped out every 3-5 years now.
>>
>>106629446
they're good entry level TVs
I have a 4k 43 inch for my bedroom since last year. It has Google TV. OS could be more responsive but it's usable and updated. Image quality is great for a $250 TV. I wouldn't get $1000 TCL TVs though, LG and Sony are far superior in that price range.
>>
>>106637426
I have a VT60 Panny plasma that has been running strong for over a decade. I have a shitty LG 720p plasma that has been working for 15 years.
>t. watching the Panny plasma now
>>
>>106637399
sadly playstation consoles don't render that fast
>>
>>106629446
don't have that model but i got a midrange 55" tcl on black friday last year
i've got one of the "8 bit" that is actually 6 bit with flicker and it has the worst "sizzle" i've ever seen on pixels before
you can only notice it up close or with really large areas of pixels changing, but damn it's pretty bad looking

miniled looks weird for a computer display, especially if you're a "dark mode" kind of guy, you'll often have white text showing yellowed, a weird dark spot around your cursor (while cursor usually appears white, i don't understand the backlight's behavior for this)
oh and it's also "qled" but it's va too, so it has incredibly bad black smear, scrolling text is really really bad if there's high contrast, but ghosting is otherwise not too bad, not seeing overdrive artifacts either
colors were very inaccurate out of the box, there was a massive red bias, but looks good enough with calibration

overall i like the display for the price i paid though
>>
>>106637435
That's the goal of every tech. If you don't throw it out they can't sell you new shit.
>>
>>106637431
On newer AndroidTV sets that's ALSO going to fuck you because Google is going to incessantly pester you to 'finish setting up your TV' by registering a Google account and connecting to the internet. You can take the set offline afterwards of course. For now. But odds are they keep metrics of how many 'keep phoning home' and eventually they'll figure out they have to ramp up the policy to force those sets to be kept online and connected to the mothership for ad revenue.

>buy tv in the past
>hook it up to cable box or ps2
>it just works
Where as now....
>eeerrrrrrrrmmmm you need to sign into your Gmail play account, Samsung TV account, Netflix account, Hulu account, Disney + account, Crunchy roll account, Amazon Prime account, Apple account, AND... Connect to the wifi so you can receive firmware updates in order to adjust the brightness of your display and use your sound bar
I wanna go back to the Y2K days anons... Why did the consumer allow such '''convince''' to engulf their lives?
>>
>>106638611
no
>>
>>106637435
>swapped out every 3-5 years
Trade off for how cheap TVs are now in general. The tech is also moving forward so fast most want to upgrade anyways. Most of all as the bigger screens dump in price too..
>>
>>106638616
don't worry there's an alternative just never connect it into to internet and ignore all the constant bitching it does about connecting to the internet the system works!
>>
>>106638616
aka, it's JUST like the internet
>>
>>106637347
Sceptre is on ebay selling dumb televisions. I'm not sure if they're good though.
>>
>>106638600
no results on rtings.com, which models are good?
>>
>>106629446

no, they're not 4:4:4 color space, they will look like shit
