Thoughts on this? What are the best tips for not getting caught in a similar manner? Don’t use a delivery app with your address using badly laundered money?

Seems like a very simple mistake to avoid but also a simple one to make. Have to assume he talks too, unlikely a 19 year old looking at 95 years keeps his mouth shut

According to court doc screenshots on Twitter the short story is he didn’t launder the bitcoin properly. IIRC:

>hacked and got his bitcoin
>did whatever to it, ended up buying a gift card (not sure if like visa or specifically food delivery)
>uses food delivery gift card to deliver to his real address and account
>feds subpoena delivery company and get his info from there

There was a steam account involved as well I heard but I didn’t dig into that. I think similar issue with not laundering properly

Beware of hackers from hostile countries:
>Two of the Kremlin’s most active hacking units recently were spotted collaborating in malware attacks
>One of the groups... has also been known for unleashing stealthy Linux malware
>Both... are widely assessed to be units of Russia’s Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), the country’s chief security agency and successor of the Soviet Union’s KGB

>Thoughts on this?
This was in the UK, famous for its wall-to-wall surveillance. The dragnet runs 24/7 and covers anything. We will never get any confirmation but my guess is that they were first found by one of the agencies, then they worked back to any possible misstep, and spun a story originating with that.
The US will demand extradiction under a joint agreement they have used before, the UK will agree as they normally do, and these guys will spend the rest of their lives behind bars.

>>106634957
The only good advice.

>>106637266
>The idea is more “what bad opsec happened and how do we fix it” since privacy tends to be a thread theme
Here is the thing: it might very well be that they made no errors, other than living in the UK. And if you really believe any privacy remains in the UK, I have a bridge I'd like to sell to you.

If you want to reach the root cause, I believe the ever increasing surveillance is just an extension of the Iron Law of the Oligarchy.
Then: "The rulers should fear the people"
Now: "Bah! Humbug! Let's get the uppity people under surveillance and control"
The only "cure" for this Iron Law is collapse of civilization, so the cur eis worse than the disease. So the only remaining question is, when will it all collapse. In my line of work I see clear signs of strain already.

>>106643586
They accepted bitcoin as a payment method for their ransom and then took that bitcoin and started spending it on gift card sites. This has nothing to do with them being in the UK a police department with an annual budget of $500 could’ve tracked them down.

Apparently
>>
>>106644035
That strains my sense of credibility. How on earth is it possible to make such a mindblowing mistake when they have already been able to grab that much money??
I am sure this is what the authorities will tell, but do we know this is the fact? It is not as if the defendants will exclaim "oh, but we did run it through a mixer first!!" in the hope of winning the case. have the bitcoin transaction numbers been disclosed?

I attempted to ask this on /sqt/, but didn't get much, so I'll ask here:
If, completely hypothetically, I wanted to find out info on someone for my own purposes, what would he the best way to do it via OSINT? In this hypothetical scenario, I know

>their age
>their state and county
>the fact that they live in an apartment complex
