I want this thing as a toy, but they just had to make it an ARM piece of shit. Underpowered, only one Linux distro, no sleep/wake or hibernate + 4 hours of battery life even if you just idle with the screen turned off. I wouldn't even think twice about dropping $1700 on it if I could get it with one of the ryzen ai memes like the pocket 4... and if it actually had a battery life. I fucking love this early 90s thinkpad shit. But it just had to fucking be an ARM SoC. ARM is one of the spearheads of technological enshittification.

>ARM is one of the spearheads of technological enshittification.
Just make your own trackball computer. We have FPGAs, we have KiCAD, we have freeCAD, we have gnu everything and we have free books of full of engineering information as far as the eye can see. All you have to do is just understand CS/CE on a deep enough level, put your imagination together, do some research, set the tech constraints, sketch a rough design, and start building. It's easier said than done of course, but it could never be easier than it is today.
>>
>>106639114
That doesn't fix the fact that ARM is a humiliation ritual.
>>
>>106639181
Yeah, but my point is that you don't need to use ARM. Just design your own core on an FPGA so it only does what you need it to do.
>>
>>106639053
Enjoy your half hour of x86 battery life then
>>
>>106639190
You misunderstand the crux of this thread to be about the satiation of consoomerism.
Also, if I'm complaining about lack of power, lack of software, lack of features and horrendous battery consumption, why on earth would you recommend some piece of shit naive FPGA synthesis?

>>
>>106639236
Well shit, complain away then. I'm sure that'll solve your problems, you fucking idiot.
>>
>>106639227
ryzen mobile chips have been competitive and often better than arm rivals since at least covid. case in point, the pocket 4 has about half the power draw. it also has fantastic performance and great upstream support. unfortunately it's too thin and that hinge looks abominable, so it can fuck itself.
>>
>>106639257
You will find yourself at conflict with people less often when you come to understand that complaints are not a cry for help.
>>
>>106639257
All of your solutions are valid. OP is a fag and doesn't want a solution that requires effort. Fag just wants to whine and bitch.

Chinks should just put qwerty on this $50 console thing.

gpd forever
>>
>>106639574
i want something built like a tank though. gpd makes nice shit, but nothing as thicc or toolbox-level robust as this.
if i could have the gpd pocket's internals in the mnt pocket reform's shell i would smash buy
>>
>>106639053
I know right? Why don't they just make a Ryzen SoM already? Too bad they haven't come up with an active cooling solution.
>>106639114
Well buddy, MNT products ARE supposed to answers to all the "just make it yourself" smugposters.

doesnt it use compute module? pretty sure theres intel n100 one
>>
this is the only decent small computer I've seen lately that isn't like $1000
The company is sketchy af though, assume you're not getting any kind of support if there are issues

reverse mouse superior over trackball

ARM is fucking amazing you dumb nigger

it's actually not.

i know this is ragebait but all my laptops and handhelds are linux. my ayaneo slide running bazzite is lucky to get more than a couple of hours at 15w tdp (ideal for most games). you can push it on some lighter titles (the recent zool remaster can run fine at 4w tdp but is an outlier) but higher end arm chips running at 6-8w will still have better performance
>>
>>106640855
It isn't ragebait. I installed windows on steamdeck and I couldn't get more than 1-hour battery life on desktop in fucking discord call. It's wild how bad windows at this type of thing
>>
>>106639053
Anything running off a battery ought to be ARM.
>>
>>106640907
>discord
there is the problem
>>
>>106640918
nothing should run on arm at all
>>
>>106641899
Which battery-efficient architecture do you recommend?
>>
Are we just gonna forget that some intel lunar lake laptops have better battery life than macbooks? And that snapdragon elite chips weren't even able to beat x86 back when they released? You cucks still fall for arm shilling
>>
>>106641923
the "not a fucking CPU if you're that hard up for watt hours" architecture
>>
>>106641952
it's one of the biggest scams in tech, but the people who bought into it will never actually read numbers.
