do you actually find it worth it? is it me or discord channels feel dead? because everyone is always connected 24/7 and is in 30 different channels? like, i heard people say that once you got a room of 20 people in 2000s MSN people would just chat non stop because it was a time where you "connected" which was separate from most of the day.
i tried discord this week for the first time in a 4k+ channel vidya related and the only people that chat are 4 regulars (furries and trannies, all mods) and there's like 4 messages a day. anyone had the same experience? maybe i just entered the wrong channel idk.
>>
Hope reddit and twitter are next
>>
>>106645274
The issue is that a '4k members server' it is not a real metric of activity.
There are a lot of 20-50k discord servers which most members are bots, alt accounts and inactive ones.
Most tranny/furry mods are biased as hell and will always ban anyone who says something they don't like and that's why everyone is scared of actually talking.
>>

>Most tranny/furry mods are biased as hell and will always ban anyone who says something they don't like and that's why everyone is scared of actually talking.
i definitely feel scared of texting, while IRC feels like whatever even with cops around.

so am i right in thinking that channels feel dead or is it worthwile? i just want chatrooms like in 2005 for fuck's sake.

This digital ID shit is going to be mandated by law on every platform and using alternatives won't be possible, because this is going to be implemented on hardware level soon enough and your device won't be able to access the internet without ID verification.
The system wants absolute control and they'll do anything to get it, unless this mess collapses completely into a massive civil unrest, that forces a massive rollback of this bullshit on a governmental level.

Do tell me, how is this unenforcable? It's 100% enforceable and it wouldn't even be difficult.
For example it's enough that your ISP requires you to have an online ID for online access and that's it. This thing that I just came up with is a piss simple thing to implement and you can think of thousands of other ways to add on top of it.
And like the German above me said, you need internet for any kind of bank or government business access among other things.
They're rolling it out currently worldwide and closing your eyes to this won't change it.
US is specifically looking into this being implemented on device level, pic related. It's from the save the children bill or whatever the fuck it's called.
You can come up with all kinds of fantasies of there being an underground of a handful of people using cobbled together tech to access the internet, but in reality you're looking at 99.99% of society operating on this.
Especially if and when they start punishing people for accessing the web without ID. People won't be taking that risk and the punishments will be draconian.

This system is being brought in now at break neck speed, because we're globally on the verge of a catastrophic collapse of the Western economic systems and people are already at a breaking point.
We're going to see more and more riots and aggression in the near future as the system gets fucked.
This is why the ones at the top are bringing in an authoritarian control system to monitor everyone, because they think they can save their asses from the increasing violence by throwing all potential dissidents into prison.
Why do you think they want to monitor all chats? It's not to catch pedophiles, it's to catch people who plan on any kind of violence against the controllers.
>>
>>106646428
If you're planning anything through the internet then you're a fucking retard. Learn some basic opsec or just sit and think about it for 10 minutes.
>>
>>106646442

I agree, it would be fucking retarded.
But guess what? It doesn't matter what you, I or anyone else think about it.
That's not going to stop the boomers in power from bringing in this control system, due to their growing fear of the average person chimping out and burning down the system.

EU forces discord to age gate and track , everyone moves to other platforms without restrictions and selfhosting , Discord loses EVEN more money, will whine and then pay politician to remove the laws
GG
>>
>>106640337
FWIW - this type of age verification is literally illegal in the EU.
A recording of your face as well as a copy of your national ID are considered as part of a special category of more sensitive personal data, which legally is forbidden from being processed (GDPR Art 9.1) except for a number of exemptions (GDPR Art 9.2). The only two which might apply for the case of age verification by Discord are procesing under the legal grounds of explicit consent (Art 9.2a) and processing that is necessary for reasons of substantial public interest (Art 9.2g).

The exemption for consent does not actually apply because consent must be freely given, which means you may not be pressured to give consent under duress due to negative consequences occuring when withholding consent. As Discord apparently presents this age verification prompt in a non-dismissible manner and completely blocks further access until you go through the process, they are holding existing online relationships and community presence to ransom. Therefore this is a matter of duress; consent is not freely given, and not legally usable as a legal grounds for processing. Therefore the exemption on the restriction of processing this data also does not apply.

The exemption for serving public interest only is applicable insofar as it is an interest anchored in law. Said law here WOULD be the Digital Services Act, Article 28.1 requiring online platforms protect children from being exposed to harmful content. Except Article 28.3 exempts platforms from a legal obligation to use age verification means that require processing personal data. In short: there is no anchoring in law, and this exemption also does not apply.

What Discord is doing, is illegal.
>>
>>106647152
well they're gonna keep doing it unless the eu fines them

>Boomers don't understand tech and their wording is in place erroneous, so that means the whole thing is null and void and nothing you say matters!

Retard.
Only thing that matters is that your system, like all other systems around the world are rolling this mess in.
If they're already looking into device level implementation, you can't say this isn't in the books.
Give it max 5 years and this system will be in full swing and the only way out is people chimping out and burning it down.

>>106647152

It's most likely EU that's forcing this shit on them in the first place.
I wager it's because the chat monitoring law is soon going into action and everything you write after that will be linked to your online ID.
The very purpose is to eradicate anonymity online.
EU will come up with some nonsense to get around their own laws and they'll call it a day on that subject.
>>
>>106647197
>It's most likely EU that's forcing this shit on them in the first place.
The EU Commission's published guidance document on the protection of minors online following DSA Article 28 literally states that they do not consider age verification means that require sharing personal data, in particular that use facial recognition or national ID, as reasonable or proportionate. And wants those to not be used.

>I wager it's because the chat monitoring law is soon going into action
The 'chat control' proposal was pulled before it could be voted on. It's not coming into action anytime soon. It's not even an actual law. It wasn't even voted on to become a law.

I only ever talk to like 2 friends on there. If they rolled something this gay I'd just leave.
Same thing happened with Chrome killing off Ublock: I just moved to firefox. Do there gigacorpos not realize there's always plenty of alternative for all platforms?
>>
>>106647197
Digital ID will not come into action because EU basic laws require the states to provide their citizens an unobstructed way to do legal transactions. Only physical ID papers can provide that.
Same with digital money. The paper bill is the only statutory means of payment because everyone needs to have the possibility to service debt and bills. Only the paper bill can provide this liability and any creditor is required by law to accept paper bill payments.
So the digital options never can become obligatory.

Yes. if they do not understand what they are talking about, how are they supposed to write laws, more importantly enforce them? the entire dumbfuck post to begin with was essentially: we don't understand computers, so we are going to spend tax dollars to get 5heads to teach us, so we can try to make laws that would require an entire refactor of society to implement. unenforceable schizo babble. you are actually scared of boomers with computers.

everyone should be able to spy on anyone as much as they want, and there should be extensive logs of this that anyone can view too. that will keep the unauthorized use of spying under control since you will be easily caught doing it.
