So what is /g/'s flashlight of choice? Does it support Anduril? Is it hackable?
>>1066436745kW laser
Wuben x2Good shape for a pocket, wide beam width, bright, and cheap enough to not be worried about losing it while I'm 10 tabs deep at a music festival
Sofirn.Q8 Pro, SC31 Pro, SF16, LT1, LT1S x 2, HS21Also got a Wuben E1 magsafe light that I haven't managed to find a use for yet.

>>106643674zebralight
>>106643674
I might get one for 5$ to use when I go to pee at night because the light in my bathroom is too bright and I can't fall asleep afterwards
>>106643674i don't own a flashlight nowadays due to having a phone, but when i was a kid i always wanted a maglite. i don't even know if they are any good anymore though, if they ever were.
I have a Chinese clone of a Raidfire Spear that I use exclusively for finding my dog in the yard at night. Also 14 year old zebralight that's nearly impossible to use because the clicky switch is so worn out and has had virtually no use case anyway since I got a smartphone
Wurkkos HD20, literally carry it everyday at work along with a cheap coast pen light and led maglight in my tool pouch.Daily carry would be my olight I5t or wurkkos TS10 and for when I need some real light I have my olight seeker 4 pro
>>106645054I got an old mini-keychain one and it's fine, but they've gotten LED ones that are bright as hell over the old incandescent ones.
>>106645054You can drop in LED upgrades and use some cell adapters to really boost its output and battery life
>>106643674i have a zebralight h600 and a 20 dollar knock off surefire centurion that both just work op
>>106643674>flashlightDepends on the use caseDaily carry, in pocket at all times>Olight i3E EOS keychain light (pic rel)>single AAA battery>really small>twist to activate>on a dummy cord w/ house keyDaily carry, might need a light (or stick in backpack, forget about it)>Olight i3T EOS>single AAA battery>tail switch>low or high outputBoth are cheap enough that I don't worry about losing them. Also, fuck rechargeable batteries.Streamlight's MicroStream pocket light (single AAA) is also great.
>>106646200I have so many of those I3e lights from their free giveaways its not even funny
Flashlights are for looking around in the dark. Headlamps are for doing work in the dark.
>>106643674zebralight is the best. i have some hanklights with anduril which are fun toys but nothing beats the zebra for just being a reliable light that works.
Oh boy I've gone deep down this autism rabbit hole in the last 2 years. These things are like Pokemon cards when you get to buying them. I have gone through few and these are the ones I like the most. It'll be mostly Sofirn for me as their price and quality is on point, same goes for Convoy and Wurkkos.Sofirn HS21 is easily one of the best if not the best price performance headlamps out there. Everyone should have one of these.Sofirn SK40 and SK30 are wonderful, some of the best flashlights you could buy for the money. Plenty of throw but still enough usable spill for all kinds of use.Best light you can buy for general purpose is Convoy M21H with XHP70.3 R70, it's so versatile. I have a 8 degree TIR which gives it a bit more throw over the default 12 degrees, and this makes it the king of general purpose lights for close and mid range.Honorable mention Wurkkos TS22 for a total flooder, great indoors general purpose one, but it's definitely limited in range. You can achieve the exact same thing with a wider spill TIR for the M21H though.Best part is that all of those lights have a USB-C charging port, so you don't need to fuck with chargers and they all have very good sustains for their size.Screw any water ingress memes about the USB ports, non issue.Bonus round for a lumen cannon option, Convoy M21B with LHP73B, this thing is just silly levels of power in that small package.Nice to have mini light is Wurkkos HD03, cheap and powerful enough.Keychain light for me is the Nitecore Tini2.I might be a bit of a contrarian, but Anduril is something that basically makes a light non buy for me, because it's just way too much of a gimmick.I have one Hanklight and it's nice and pretty, but have managed to get the light stuck on some weird ass setting couple of times and then I had to google how to unfuck it.You really shouldn't need a flowchart from google to operate a one button flashlight.
Maglite
>>106647376I always think of getting an anduril light like a new Linux install, once you get it you'll tweak it to your desired setting and never have to fuck with it again.Though honestly I wish all lights had a general dial to ramp up/down your output since thats just more simple and efficient
>>106647623The problem is that it's way too easy to get the anduril light messed up in some way, as basically every set of clicks from 1 to 10 has some kind of an effect.I couldn't even imagine letting someone borrow it, as they'd have it stuck in momentary or locked mode in no time with no idea what the hell happened.I do agree that every light should have a ramping setting, as sometimes the gaps between low,mid and high are way too big. Easily the best example being Acebeam Pokelit, which goes from low 5 lumen to mid 200 and will instantly eye rape you in the dark.I think the great ramping is the main reason most people like anduril to begin with, instead of all of the other bells and whistles it has.
>>106647376>Sofirn HS21I was looking for a light and your post put me on this, and it's likely what I'll end up getting. Thanks.Really nice to see someone who's already put in the undiluted autism research I would like to put in myself. Most reviews are just for clicks but like you say yours is a fixation so it's actually meaningfully useful.
>>106647788Anduril has easy mode, you just keep it in easy mode.

>>106647788Last time I set mine I just locked off everything but ramping up/down and turbo so its relatively easy for anyone to handke though I absolutely hate taking the battery out to charge it then it taking fucking forever to be responsive again
>>106646308thats why i carry my zebralight h600 and a nite ize headband with me everywhere i go op
>>106643674Anything that doesn't use led is good enough for me.
>>106645054Maglite flashlight is good actually, cheap but simple and reliable, though not an enthusiast level. I also put eveready flashlight here just "good enough" tool
>>106649623Sadly, that's what most modern flashlights are
>>106646308Can you recommend headlamp that is good enough?
>>1066436746$ penlight from the hardware store does the trick
>>106649676I personally like right angle lights over a dedicated headlamp just for the versatility since I'm not always on a site but sofirm/wurkkos have some really good light if you do need a dedicated headlamp
>>106643674flashlights are stupid get a good headlamp instead
Bought one of these chink memelights and I hate it. Any recs for these requirements:- LED- Operation is only On/Off. Absolutely nothing else.- Beam can be focused- Takes rechargeable batteries, long battery life is a priority
>>106651222streamlight protac
>>106651267Doesn't meet the requirements:- tenclick mode settings- set beamI did see some maglite Ds have beam focus, but now they have QuickClick modes too.
>>106651222Convoy Z1 with SFT-42r or SFT-25r. About the best zoomie in the market and costs fuckall, takes 21700 batteries.Zoomed in it's a basically a lightsaber and you can set it to only work in on off mode.I'd recommend Sofirn SK40 over it though. It's not a zoomable light, but it's overall better. It throws like a champ so you have the focused hotspot, but also has a lot more useful spill than any zoomie. Also it has USB charging while Z1 does not. You can set it to any level you want and just click it on and off, it'll always stay on that level. Both are fine lights though, but I'd go with the latter option myself.
>>106645054>i don't own a flashlight nowadays due to having a phonePhones are fine but nowhere as bright as modern LED flashlights.A powerful flashlight is handy when you drop something small on the ground, if it's even slightly reflective it will stand out.And outdoors you can really light up the scene vs barely seeing where you're walking.
>>106649676I just have a 18650 headlamp and keep extra charged 18560's.
>>106651450Looks like the Z1 only has one on/off mode and it's at 100% which drains the battery.I have a Sofirn SC31, that's what drove me away from these digital light modes. It's buggy, always screws up if I adjust the light too much and especially when the battery is low. It does work ok on/off if the battery is full.
>>106651601That's problem with electronic switches, they can sometimes be a bit fucky and that's also an anduril light, so it adds an extra layer of options.Z1 has a mechanical tail switch, just like the SK40, so the chance of anything being wrong there due to electronics fuckery is lower.Really you're not going to find just a pure on/off light nowadays, they simply don't exist as the tech is woefully outdated. Unless of course you buy some piece of crap from the bargain bin that cranks out 250 lumens, then yeah you might find one but otherwise no.Lights like Z1 that just switch modes with each click are piss simple and you can't really screw up with them.Just get one, set it to 1%, 20%, 100% mode and you're good.
>>106651943Nevermind, I misread. I can set it to 1% 20% 100% mode and just cycle to what i want.
>>106651943>>106651952Actually that's exactly how it works since these have mode memory, which you can also toggle on or off. If you set it to 30% and click it off, it'll always turn back on at 30% or whatever you left it at.Only way it'll cycle the mode, is if you click it on and off really fast or do a half click, so it's basically an on/off light in that sense.
>>106647376anon can you explain why someone would get the Convoy M21H instead of the Sofirn SK40?as a flashlight noob I don't understand what makes it more versatile
