>decide to distrohop to a gnome distro because with my logic if it has the fewest features it has the least amount of technical debt so should be the most polished>glitches within 15 minutes of using it>broken themes and title bars for non gtk 4 apps>5 second delay for sound to start playing from displayport>this is major compared to my kde experiencewtf. Usecase for a working desktop?
>gnome distro>retard thinks you need to change distro to change the DEthe state of /g/. you also think that distros support only these DEs they have ISOs for?
>>broken themes and title bars for non gtk 4 appsWhat do you mean? GTK3 themes work just fine.
>>106645604This>>106645586I use Linux for its customization prowess, and gnome is literally the antithesis of that. Anything you change has to be through extensions. Even winglows has more customizability than this retarded desktop environment. Gnome is so beautiful though when you use strictly gtk 4 apps, so sometimes it's like a moth to a flame.
>>106645586I tried to give gnome a chance, I really did. But it is by far the worst DE ever. It's the flagship DE yet it's missing basic functionality like a minimize button. It's bloated af and yet still lacks any and all features expected in a DE.Plus the whole "please don't theme our DE" fiasco makes the whole project nothing more than a joke. Why does anyone throw money into this shitty project is beyond me.
>>106646297>It's the flagship DE yet it's missing basic functionality like a minimize button. This is a moronic criticism, and I'm saying this as someone who hates GNOME even more than you do. "This DE is bad because I don't know how to use it properly" is not a valid point.
>>106646270>>106646297kope
>>106645586Everyone knows you are lying.
>>106646721You are the guy who recommended Reawaita? If so, thank you; it looks sick!
>>106646634>This is a moronic criticismNo it isn't, I still use gnome to this day and I know the hotkey super+h.But the point of the criticism, which went over your 2 digit iq head, was that: a flagship DE used by most distros that are purportedly beginner friendly reinventing the wheel; is what's really moronic.People coming to linux from literally any other OS will have problem with basic functionalities because gnome has to be some barebones, bloated snowflake. Windows, chromeOS, macOS, and every other DE in existence has the window buttons to minimize and maximize, gnome deciding go do away with them is utterly retarded.>>106646721>non-argumentkys footfag
cosmic is still in beta and it's already less buggy and more functional than this shit.can't wait for cosmic to fully release and shit all over gnome fags.
>>106645586Gnome is intended for headless machines.
>>106646721You the guy who recommended Reawaita? If so fuck you, it doesn't work on my machine >;(
>>106647392hi mmstick
>>106645586Emacs is what GNU's true equivalent to KDE is.
I never used anything but xfce.It just works well enough to not be a bother so i never tried anything else.
>>106647384Yep, your entire reply just proved you don't know how to use it properly. You're trying to use GNOME like an inferior version of a floating window manager. Instead you are supposed to use the virtual desktops (workspaces) which makes minimising a window completely unnecessary. Again, there are valid reasons to hate GNOME, but a lot of the hatred is just based on ignorance from people like you.I also disagree with your point that a desktop environment for beginner Linux users should be as close to Windows as possible. This exact mindset is what leads to people trying out shitty distros like Linux Mint, only to conclude that Linux is just an inferior version of Windows - because that's exactly what the Windows-imitator distros are. Instead, desktop environments should be about showing new users why Linux is better, and that includes the use of better systems for managing your desktop, such as the use of virtual desktops.
What's broken about this title bar?
>>106648193I never said anything should be as close to windows as possible you're making assumptions and responding to them.
>>106648246You said it should be similar to Windows, chromeOS and macOS. I cut out the last two examples for brevity, but otherwise I was more or less directly quoting you.Do you have nothing to say in response? It seems like you have already conceded defeat.
>>106648270I didn't say anything like that, I didn't even use the word "similar". But keep trying to find a way to misconstrue what I said to your weird ass assumptions.
>>106648296So all you can do is nitpick my choice of words.I accept your concession.
>>106648309>I accept your concessionlmao sure retard. Your DE is trash and cosmic will kill it.
>>106648331Ironic since you claimed you still use GNOME, yet I don't.
All I want is GNOME adapted to a traditional desktop metaphor without precarious plugins.Cinnamon kind of does that, but it's hopelessly outdated and still can't do Wayland, something GNOME could nine years ago.
>>106648403>without precarious pluginsDash to Panel has yet to ever break on me, it's pretty much a more extensible Cinnamon at that point.
>>106649049What other extensions do you recommend? A Cinnamon-like start menu and alt-tab that doesn't group applications would be neat.
>>106649087What you're looking for is ArcMenu>alt-tab that doesn't group applicationsYou can change that in the keyboard shortcuts settings. Don't remember what it's named but it's something like Super + Tab, just bind it to Alt + Tab. That's always the first thing I do on GNOME, it's a retarded choice.
>>106646767>ReawaitaWhat is this? I can't find anything on google.
I think the main issue with Gnome is that it's being marketed(both by the devs and the community) as some sort of generalist beginner friendly DE aimed at everyone. While in reality it should be treated more as a niche operating environment aimed at a small subset of users, similar to a tiling VM.Just as if you don't want tiling windows there's no point in using Hyprland, If you don't like the super specialized workflow Gnome offers, there's no point in using it. No matter how many extensions you throw at it.Which is a shame because I genuinely love the look and consistency of Gnome. I think GTK4/Libadwaita has the best looking UI out of any modern DE. Linux or otherwise.
>>106649110Typo, it's Rewaita https://github.com/SwordPuffin/Rewaita/
>>106646270>"""customization"""How do I change the file picker?
People here only hate GNOME because it stops them from tinkertrannying lmao
