What's the best storage for backing up a lot of files and storing more in the future?
I'm thinking of getting WD blue, it's cheaper and seems to fit my case, which is just storing files externally using an adapter
Should I get that, or get different storage instead?

your preferred cloud provider

for me, it's iCloud
>>
>>106651047
If your usecase is that simple perhaps a easystore when it's on sale?

it's not enough
i got terabytes of data I got to store
>>106651094
looking up, easystore seems to go up to 6TB, which is not enough for me to back up
>>106651099
Wow, the stats, ratings and the prices are similar to WD blue
I'm actually unsure if i should get this one instead or not

icloud goes up to 12tb

daily reminder to not use shitgate. you've been warned.

I'm not paying monthly to store my shit

>>106651411
I already got one, but it's smaller and ran out of storage
>>
>>106651047
I have like 200TB of WD gold drives, no complaints.
>>
>>106651513
take the cost of the harddrives, the cost of the power, the cost of your time, and apportion it monthly

>backing up a lot of files
Like a lot of small files? Or big ones? Cause if you need to backup 10k small files you're better of with an nvme /sata ssd. Bigger files I would go for a HDD. An HGST or a WD Gold like this anon >>106651541
I got a few Golds myself, great for backing up movies/music collection.
>>
>>106651541
What's the difference between WD Blue and Gold?
The Gold seems more expensive for the same sizes

>>106651988
>Like a lot of small files? Or big ones?
i guess a mix of both?
the total media I got to back in like 5-6 terabytes, but the biggest files consist of single digital gigabytes
>>
>>106652006
>i guess a mix of both?
>5-6 terabytes
HDD it is then..
just keep in mind lots of small files tend to take a lot longer then just a few big ones. The reason I use a hdd cage is I can get much faster copy speeds (sata6) to my hdd then over usb3.2
I use nvme in usb3 enclosures for backup of my home directory, just plug it in, start rscync backup script, unplug
>>
>>106652006
>single digital gigabytes
meant to say single digit gigabytes

>>106652151
Gonna buy SATA HDD then, although I'm unsure how shall i transfer all these files
should i use software or hardware disk cloner?
>>
WD blue is SMR so it goes in the trash
>>
>>106652370
disk clone copies at disk level, so 1/1 copy. whenever you update you copy entire disk
If you update frequently, better copy at file level.
I'm on linux so I use rsync, works on windows too.

# Music
rsync -r -t -p -o -g -v --progress --delete --stats -h /media/kurt/WD8/music/ /media/kurt/WD3/music/
# Video
rsync -r -t -p -o -g -v --progress --delete --stats -h /media/kurt/WD8/video/ /media/kurt/WD3/video/

Telegram is free but you'd need to make zip files in 2GB parts. I keep it as failsafe even though I have 4TB backed up on two drives and across DVDs.

iCloud is built for syncing, not for storage.

WD Blue CMR drives. Wait until they come back down in prices. WD just hiked the prices.
