it's the only right way to use instruct models. Everything else kinda works against them and their nature. I have my characters, I know how they look, I can imagine how they act (or I'd like them to act) their conflicts, nature, agendas.. and tell the model to write the scene. It just works. I can even ask it to expand on it, to supply me with ideas. That works well too, the model sometimes delivering surprising insights and these tiny little extras that give you that tiny addictive thrill of working with a writing partner and not a word generator. It's incredibly cool and fun. I know a "character card" of my characters would not work well. They'd go to some weird RP baseline I do not enjoy. This is a lot more immersive and fun. I wrote a very simple emacs major mode to write with LLM chat completion APIs. It's all just text in the buffer That's prefixed with either "You:" or "Assistant:" I can edit/format/search etc. the text in the buffer just like normal text. Even on 128k tokens worth of context the parsing and json serialization of the text and sending off to the API is basically instant, so I don't even bother with any kind of system to keep the text in the right format in memory, because it's simplicity itself to just reprocess the entire buffer on each query, and it allows me free editing with familiar keystrokes. Why is SillyTavern such a slow piece of shit?
