>>106663794i like plasma and i have 32gb ram so the os+de taking up 2gb seems like nothing.
>>106663794plasma + KDE + X11 take less than 1GB or ram all together in machine
>>106663921yeah, I'm running plasma 6 and the plasma shell is under 350Mb RAM according to the system monitor app
is baloo still balooning the memory?
>>106663921Imagine thinking a gigabyte of ram is okay for a basic desktop to use doing absolutely nothing.
>>106663794lmao XFECES uses more ram while offering less. This is a known fedora fresh install problem, not a KDE issue.OP obviously didn't RTFM @ https://rpmfusion.org/Howto/MultimediaYou can go back, retard.
>>106665715Who said it's doing absolutely nothing, and what part do you think is "a basic desktop"?Right now on my computer with 7 windows open and 2 monitors, plasmashell is taking 670MB, kwin_x11 170MB and kde6 120MB.
Always used xfce, never will use anything else. If xfce dies I will stop using desktop managers and go full window manager instead.
>>106665704afaik the one that ballons the memory is the one for the contacts, mail and that stuff, can't remember its name I don't have it.
>>106663794Why didn't you post this one?
>>106663816>I make six figures so the $2,000 I spend monthly on funko pops seems like nothing
>>106667846you are retarded and poor
>>106663794Unused ram is wasted ram sweetie and dont forget to buy new hardware every 2 years. BLM and open borders for everyone!
>>106663921Mate puts different parts of the DE that are not in use to sleep and caches the ram. On my ubuntu mate, when idling on desktop, the whole DE uses ~90 mb of ram. Which surprised me at first because I didn't know about auto sleeping/caching. But smart usage of resources desu. KDE should do something similar.
>>106667975>unused ram is wasted ramSo instead of using your ram on actually ram intensive software like, say, local model generation; you instead waste a good chunk of it idling on desktop? Is this what two digit iq looks like?
>>106667812>why didn't you pos-*KRASHED*to be fair to kdshit, they improved crashing over the years, but the desktop constantly changing and being so "huge" always feels like shit, as in there's much more that can go wrong. The only DE I like on troonix is xfce, that's the no-nonsense environment I always wanted. kde feels too much like windows (in a bad way).
>>106667812Not a kde guy, but that's very impressive when the main competitor to kde is the most resource intensive, most lacking in features DE.Footfags need not apply. Mate is the true gnome now.
