Is this the savior of linux users?

no drivers

It looks like it has a fair hardware support

I'm not a payfag, so this is not a viable options for me
>>
>>106688461
it has no support for any modern wifi standard which makes it not really usable on a laptop
>>
>>106688387
It's what Linux users would use if they were as smart as they think they are.
>>
>>106688387
So shit its developers don't even dogfood it.
Take the Fish BSD pill.
>>
I'm happy with Gentoo.
>>
idk
>>
>>106688602
It supports all ac for Intel and compatible for Intel ax so as far as I can understand freebsd support connection (direct or in compatibility mode) on any Intel chip
>>
>>106688767
More than 15 years have passed since that meme was born, I think the situation changed a lot
>>
>>106688387

Thanks, but I'm not going back to tinkering with shell scripts just to start my computer.
>>
>>106688842
it hasn't
>>
>>106688429
ironically freebsd is the only OS that let's me easly install drivers for my legacy nvidia card
>>
>>106689012
Yes It has. 15 years ago hw and DE support wasn't as good as today
Nowadays a big percentage (at least 50% seeing what os people at freebsd convention use) of freebsd devs also use it as a desktop
>>
>>106688980
It just works.
>>106688461
I wish openBSD supported half the drivers that freeBSD does.
>>
>>106688387
Doesn't support docker natively so no
>>
>>106690322
That's it?
jails are superior anyways

Hardware and wifi support is actively being worked on
>>
>>106691190
>jails will always be superior to cucktainers
true but unless you want to write it from scratch, docker is easier because there's thousands of containers for it already
>>
If shit wasn't dependent on glibc this would probably a viable choice right now.

I build lots of services on my server, and separate them into jails. works nicely. the packages for some are even built with poudriere.
aside from the occasional package managers' fuckup, the whole thing works flawlessly.
what else do you want to know?

>>106693687
what's hard on ZFS cloning a base system and installing some packages into it?

No, it's dogshit for desktop. If does become usable it wont be for many decades.

you don't need FreeBSD for that

freebsd core dev team didn't stop it.
wireguard dev did since he couldn't bear to see such a shitty third-party wireguard implementation.
>>

damn, that's pretty embarrassing lmao
>>
>>106688980
systemd is not necessary for you to not tinker with shell scripts. freebsd's init is miles simpler and it just werks.
>>
>>106688429
You can use Linux drivers
>>

it's better to tinker with a configuration DSL on top of shell scripts?

no, that would be worse. this shows how good systemd is.

lol
>>
>>106688387
is there a live usb?
>>
>>106697064
kinda. There's live sh directly in the installer for freebsd
Otherwise you can go with GhostBSD (the de facto starndard user friendly Freebsd with mate DE, zfs+bootenv and snapshot system already configured) https://www.ghostbsd.org/

or if you also need a persistent live image on usb there's NomadBSD https://www.nomadbsd.org/

I'm not sure but also MidnightBSD should have a live cd https://www.midnightbsd.org/ but iirc it's a fork of a older freebsd (something like r6.c)

Alpine is only good for containershit/lightvirt
